You're not fucked, its just that his argument is way sounder than yours. If you think about it, you've begun to afford the film depths which simply aren't there to give it credibility. I think you're the one reading things into my post - I wasn't giving a comprehensive reading of the character (which certainly has a bit of Hollywood about him), but rather a criticism of Spec's assumption that Two-Face was only going to react to things rationally.
Also, this is almost all besides the point because Two-Face already tried to get the Joker.
In real life, going through that traumatic pain might leave one with clouded memories of who or what is responsible for one's suffering, and might warp the personality. The part of Two-Face's personality I find implausible is that it's pretty apparent he knows what he's doing, but hey it's a COMIC BOOK CHARACTER and they had to base the film on the comic OK?
Plus, Gordon and co. are all easier to get to. He apparently wants to spread the blame around, and on that point nobody can really cry "waaah unrealistic;" people have survivor guilt and carry resentment for scenarios rather like that one in the real world as well.
Finally, I read somewhere or other that there is quite a bit of backstory to how some of these things happened. We're supposed to assume that the Joker hooks mental patients into his network, and that they managed to plant bombs in the hospital (I read an explanation eh it's not that interesting or worth our time), and I also guess it wouldn't be too difficult to imagine he's just biding his time to go after the Joker.

I don't think I'm the one being dense here. It's people like you who are too accepting of sub-par nonsense that encourages movie studios to keep churning it out at a sub-par standard.
But ignorance is bliss Ed, so you go ahead and keep singing the praises.

Let's lighten the mood by telling each other which Batman villain we would name our jank jangles after. Because they pretty much all work and have funny imagery. Probably the only reason I didn't quit going to school altogether was getting to ask this in the locker room. For me hrm hmmmmmmmmm, it's a tough call but let's just say WAIT'LL THEY GETTA LOADA ME.
Ed, you can't argue with a connoisseur.

Fair enough. I see a plot hole, you see a valid plot point. Potatoe, potato. (I still don't feel I got my money's worth, but hey, it's just the way *I* feel.Ed Oscuro wrote:

I don't mind that at all, Specineff.
Skykid's calling an argument when I didn't have (or take, more accurately) an opportunity to expand it properly is what I find galling.
Certainly it's partly my fault for making such a flip post instead of laying out my interpretation from the start, but I don't like to have to lay out my reasoning every time I make a post.
I think Skykid has found an effective way to troll me. TROLE-GARD ACTIVATE!

I would use the list of guys from Batman & Robin the Game Boy game based on the Mortal Kombat fights engine.JoshF wrote:Let's lighten the mood by telling each other which Batman villain we would name our jank jangles after.

My bad, I meant Batman Forever.
Shiit.
At least I will be able to keep this somewhat straight as separate from Batman & Robin.

Not interested in trolling. I don't like being called 'dense' because we're debating the merits/flaws of a movie though.

Also, I will use this thread to recommend everyone check out Batman: Gotham County Line for awesome artwork (I'm talking like every tenth panel of an Ashley Wood comic good) and no vomit inducing glazed color job either, plus a completely ridiculously nonsensical story. Batman is flying around on a jetpack in the whole first book and asking Alfred for facts on the after-life.

I'll use this thread to tell everyone not to watch Batman: Gotham Knight, the new anime DVD featuring six different Japanese directors.
It's an incredibly wasted opportunity, and utterly duff.

Oh I'm sorry I thought people would be interestinged in discussing Batman in this topic.
Skykid, I'm going to watch it and love it. I guess you're complaining about the plots?
Also, check out Batman Black and White part 1 and 2.

Completely, I can't believe how rubbish it is.JoshF wrote: Skykid, I'm going to watch it and love it. I guess you're complaining about the plots?
The last episode, the deadshot one, pulls things back a tiny bit - but it's not anywhere near enough to save it. The 2nd and 3rd episodes are especially poorly written - really weak stuff, and the voice acting is off throughout.
Bruce Wayne looks like he's 12.
Needs its own topic really.

Nobody waste their time with Batman R.I.P. Its lame.
On the other hand, ever since Paul Dini (the writer for like, all of the DC animated shows) took over Batman Detective Comics, it has become quite awesome. And right now Dini is writing a Hush story, and its shaping up to be great!
But in the world of comics, Marvel murders DC these days. All DC really has going on is Green Lantern, and thats because Geoff Johns (who SHOULD be writing Final Crisis, not that HACK Morrison) is an insanely good writer.

Marvel? Really? Ultimate Marvel is OK (Except for Ultimates Vol 3, thanks Loeb!)
"SKRULLS SKRULLS SKRULLS! LOL, BET YOU DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING!"
-Actual quote from Bendis*
And after the abortion of Brand New Day, I can't see how anyone could possibly still pay for Marvel's stuff. Except maybe 14 year olds who have their older brothers buy them MAX Punisher for the tits and swear words.
BTW, Johns is doing Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds, the first issue of which was pretty kickass. And it cannot be summer '09 fast enough so that Blackest Night can come out.
The best thing currently being published by Marvel is "Mini Marvels."
* -Not really. LOL
Yeah, Legion of 3 Worlds has looked damn good so far. As does Rogue's Revenge, and Revelations looks pretty good too. AND, Requiem was awesome.
In all honesty man, I came back into comics around the time Secret Invasion and Final Crisis were kicking off (and I only came back because Rob Schrab FINALLY... after a DECADE... decided to wrap up Scud: The Disposable Assassin which is, to this day, my favorite comic ever). And Marvel had already left a bad taste for me with Civil War (which was just... no good).
Note: I only read Civil War because I bought it for my roomate at the time as a Christmas present (the tradeback).
But honestly, I went back into comics after a decade long hiatus (thanks in no small part to a certain Clone Saga and the resurrection of Norman Obsorne, WHY!?) completely. I did some catching up on DC, and if you had asked me which company was superior prior to Final Crisis #2, I would've said DC no question based on Identity Crisis, Infinite Crisis, Green Lantern: Rebirth, and The Sinestro Corps. War alone. Seriously, that stuff kicked ass.
But now? I'm sorry, Batman R.I.P. and Final Crisis are both jokes. Neither are written coherently and Final Crisis most CERTAINLY does NOT live up to the "Crisis" name.
And I doubt it ever will.
But, like I said, I went in completely blind and subscribed to both FC and SI, initially I was digging Final Crisis but wasn't so impressed with Secret Invasion (also subscribed to ALL tie-ins for both), but now?
As someone who has actually read ALL of Secret Invasion to this point, its better. Its better than Civil War, and honestly, its pretty damn good. Some of the tie-ins are pointless, but some of them are damn solid, and I dig 'em. And I'm enjoying the main story. Its well done. Its not crap like Civil War. So... props to Bendis.
In so far as Final Crisis... well, the tie-ins are cool. The main story is just garbage, and do not see that changing.
Also against DC:
Trinity (oh. my. God. it. sucks. so. bad), Batman/Superman, and then that one God awful Batman and Robin thing that Miller is writing.
As for Brand New Day, I actually avoided Amazing Spider-Man thanks to folks like you. EVERYONE was dissing on Brand New Day and One More Day and oh my God they retconned blah blah.
But I grew up reading Spider-Man. I literally learned to read off of my Dad's old school Spider-Man comics. And in my opinion, the people hating on what they did with One More Day have apparently never read a Spider-Man comic pre-mid 80s or something. Because what they're doing with Brand New Day is EXACTLY what Spider-Man needed. Erase the melodrama, erase the damage done by the Clone Saga and Civil War, and just let Peter Parker be a down on his luck guy who does the super hero thing because situations arise in which he needs to because with great power comes great responsibility.
It may have been a cop out. And some may see it as poorly concieved and executed. But in my opinion, One More Day had to happen, because Spider-Man had gotten WAAAAAAAY too far from what it was supposed to be. The books shouldn't be about Spider-Man and Spider-Man occassionally being Peter Parker, it should be about Peter Parker and him balancing out his life as Peter Parker and his life as Spider-Man. And thats what Brand New Day is doing. So... as someone who actually read Amazing Spider-Man from the 60s-70s (but not like, IN the 60s and 70s...), Brand New Day is awesome, and I'm glad they finally made Spider-Man comics what they're supposed to be.
Also: New Ways to Die is looking like it'll be awesome. Can't wait for tomorrow!!!! Actually, once all these events are over, I imagine Amazing Spider-Man, Batman Detective Comics, and the Green Lantern comics will be all I'm subscribing to.
Though I'm sure we can both agree that Geoff Johns is one of the best super hero comic book writers out there right now. Green Lantern Vol 4 is great and much better than the previous volumes (sorry Marz!), and Sinestro Corps. War was one of the coolest events I've read in a long time.
