ESPgaluda scoring system is a failure? It's like a more accessible Futari. I'd go so far as to say it's one of the most successful and perfectly executed scoring systems in Cave's repertoire.

The NES port of 1942 is the worst shooter I've ever played, personally.

That people are talking about Cave and Psikyo games in this thread is absurd.

Check out the bottom half of Rob's 91-95 arcade countdown and get back to me about how Strikers 1945 or ESPgaluda are the "worst games you've ever played."

sure i played it. I forced myself to play it for more than 1 credit, but it just got worse instead of more exciting.
It looked interesting at first and had some nice bullet patterns, but as soon as i played it... that's not my game.

And it's not because i suck at it.

In a comparison i always sucked at doj and kept playing this for a half year, without any proper imagination, what was going on there.
I love it.

But even Espgaluda 2 (which i admittably played for only 1 credir) didnt change that impression.

Unless they're talking about Sol Divide, in which case, it's perfectly acceptable.

I think Silkworm on the NES is a pretty terrible game, but that might just be me. It's certainly not the worst... though it's one of the worst that I own/have played for more than 30 seconds.

How else do you define a bad game if not by the things you dislike?

i think to label a game 'bad' there has to be some broadly agreed upon flaws that make the game bad.....

disliking a game doesnt make it bad.....its just not your thing.....

id say if more than 75% of players think it is bad, something is wrong with the game.....any less and i think it comes down to preference

or as RHE would say 'we all just dont get it!'

well the majority of fundamentally flawed games brought up thus far i've never played... sooo worst i've played is still mars matrix. has more flaws than the rest.

Whats wrong with ghost pilots? I played it in the arcade a few years back, seemed cool enough.

Anyway for worst game I'd have to go with..um..shit..

I dunno..these weird doujin shmups I've been playing. Basically you're some naked woman(woot) but it's all disturbing and grotesque cause you're in like the devil's asshole or something and 99% of the projectiles are tiny worms which are a bitch in terms of hit detection.

There's like 20 of these games. It's ridiculous. And now I can't think about breasts anymore because I keep thinking of them being attached to demons and stuff.

Seriously folks I'm talking about a game that kills a man's interest in breasts! How is that not the worst game ever?

Lazer-Force on the C64 - Sorry Gavin.

If we're talking about new shumps then 13 Stag was pretty grim although it must be said that Taito didn't have produce some arcade shit during the 80's.

So what, we just list the games that all have flaws? Maybe, but a better name for such a thread would be called "The worst shooters in the world".
--------
Giga Wing, Vasara and the Touhou Project games (well, the shooters anyway). And it's probably because of the pacing.

GG, Vasara, and thp are like "slow" games (to me anyway), and they all have some sort of ridiculous benefit of pointblanking things constantly. Yet everytime I do such pointblanking I always get hit and begin a downward trajectory to doom. Either I need to figure out how to fix up this pacing, or I need to stay away from these games. And I would hate to do the latter.

Then again it may just be this very pacing that's part of the learning process, in exchange for that "slowness".

XII (Twelve) Stag was created by Triangle Service. Taito merely published the game.

:D
Yeah, they did. They produced loads of fantastic games, but LOTS of poor shmups (as well as some Great ones).
During the 80's and 90's they were wildly inconsistent compared to the likes of Namco, Irem, Capcom, and Konami.

Mainly in the gameplay and graphics departments.

This.

On Topic: Chaos Field. Sure, I started enjoying it...after about 5 months of despising and not playing it. Even in spite of this, I'm still pretty interested in playing Milestones other offerings...

I wasn't completely fond a Xevious either.
