"Fall from Grace" movie

Post by Damocles »

I'll preface this by saying I was raised in NE Kansas and have lived there for most of my life. As such, I'm well aware of what Fred Phelps has been doing for all these years.

So...Showtime just aired a movie on dickhead Fred Phelps called Fall from Grace. I'll be honest...I had no idea he was that cracked out. IEDs killing soldiers in Iraq because a Washburn student chucked a pipe bomb on your lawn ten years earlier? "Two thousand dead in Iraq? I wish they'd kill two million." Throughout the entire movie I was expecting someone to shout out "White Power!".

Fred Phelps and the Kansas Board of Education. Two things that garner national attention and make the entire state look like a bunch of bigots and backward, homosexual-hating rednecks.

his daughter (mary?) had her first child out of wedlock  .... 8)

if you haven't seen it, the louis theroux documentary is well worth watching, as is the keith allen one

the only respite from watching their bullshit was seeing those biker dudes blocking them from gatecrashing a soldier's funeral that they'd travelled a thousand miles to ruin with those stupid 'US Soldiers are Fags' signs. can't remember what they're called...

I just took a quick look at the guy on Wikipedia, and while I'd heard of the whole "protesting at funerals" thing, I was unaware that he runs a bunch of "godhates(insert country here).com" sites...and that apparently one of the few places he actually ever liked was Iraq under Saddam.

Of course, on a personal level I found re-affirmation for my decision to never register as a Democrat despite my liberal tendencies, since the party, at least at some point, welcomed (or at least accepted) him into their ranks. Yeesh.

That's actually pretty touching.

Maybe I'm just becoming a lot less tolerant of so-called religious groups and their constitutional/god-given right to take a big shit on everyone else, but fuck Phelps and his so-called cult. The species would be a lot better off without him and his kin.

Edit: I am leaning more and more toward the idea that the only aspects of religious groups that should be tax exempt are those which can be shown to be directly charitable. Using religion to shield propaganda/political agendas while enjoying tax exemption (especially when said propaganda is either hate-laden, or destructive in some other way to elements of our society) is pretty low on my list of low shit.
