Worst - Every single gameboy I ever bought.
I never use them, but for some reason always feel compelled to own one whenever nintendo brings out a new version.
Also, coming home from shopping with various "bargain" PS1 games that I clearly must have been under the influence of powerful narcotics when deciding to purchase them.

If you really liked the PSX port, you might want to try tracking down the Mega CD/Sega CD original. Numerous plot changes were made to the PSX/Saturn port (for instance, you actually got Ghaleon as a party member during a point in the game in the Mega CD original). Also, the battle system was a little different in the original, as it actually used movement much like a strategy RPG.OmegaFlareX wrote: Best:
Lunar SSSC: I subscribed to PSM during the PS1 years. I noticed a small blurb on the side of the page (where they put the "oh, by the way" news) that said Lunar wasn't going to be made anymore after December. It happened to be December, so I rushed out and bought it. Incredible RPG (except for the battle system), and an all-time favorite to this day.
Best - Super Magnetic Neo, Red Dog and Record of Lodoss War for Dreamcast
Worst - Illbleed for dreamcast. It was only 10 bucks and as a fan of bad horror movies, I liked the concept... crap on stick.

Similar concept to Illbleed but much better executed is The Devil Inside for PC. Had a blast playing through itAcid King wrote:Worst - Illbleed for dreamcast.

I'm guessing that they were trying it out with SC to make sure it worked, then forgot the game inside. At least, that's what I'd like to think...OmegaFlareX wrote:Wait, so you bought a used DC and found a game inside? That's incredible luck for you, and at the same time, completely flabbergasting that the game store employee who took in the system didn't fucking bother to open the lid before putting it up for sale. That's just... wow.MadSteelDarkness wrote:When I got home, I realized that someone had left a copy of Soulcalibur inside the machine.![]()
Heh, I took that puppy home, plugged it in, and turned it on to check if there were any game saves on the memory card to erase. Imagine my surprise when the big Namco logo came up, punctuated by the announcer's voice, "NAM..CO...". Turned it back off, popped the top, and there she was.

That's one of the reason I love that shop: ignorance. I bought a backup Jp Saturn there a few months ago. I inspected it at the shop, and noticed a little toggle switch on the back. I quickly put it back in the box, paid the guy my $35, and spirited it home, where I confirmed that it was indeed modded. They had no idea!

The Worst (ever): Enter the Matrix for $50 on the day of its release
This game is so horribly bad, I refrain from describing it as an effort to quickly forget I ever made such a bad mistake. I can't even bring myself to sell it. A friend is holding on to it for me.
On the bright side, I recently picked up Silhouette Mirage and Sanvein for pretty cheap at Gamestop. I've been playing a fair bit of Sanvein and man is it hard! Kiken, your 1CC video is very impressive to watch.

I think the one bad thing about the game is the control scheme. They should have blatently ripped off of Max Payne's controls and ditched the hand to hand combat (or implemented it in a way similar to Kung Fu Max Payne). It's a shame it doesn't seem like the game is very modable, because I think that'd really clean the game up a good bit.snap monkey wrote:The Worst (ever): Enter the Matrix for $50 on the day of its release

In a lot of ways, it reminded me of Vigilance, another game that could have been quite a bit better with a more thought-out and intuitive control scheme

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Oh man, I was given the courtesy of a reach around on that one and dodged the bullet. It was nice that they tried to change the gameplay up a bit, but they really dropped the ball on the actual execution. They did a much better job with I.Q. and Devil Diceneorichieb1971 wrote: Jumping flash robbit mon dieu PS1 (too much jap text)

Best:
When I bought Radiant Silvergun and Vampire Savior before even owning a Saturn. This was back in '99, so used Saturns were pretty common. Picked one up at Funcoland and never regretted it.
Worst:
The PSP. Good lord.. I thought the software support for the DS was shitty. I actually own more games for the DS than I do the PSP.

I can't think of any bad impulse buys off the top of my head, I don't often impulse buy console games (only arcade and pinball machines, and cars).
However, Midnight Club 2 - I picked this up just before the PS2 network adapter was released, had a bit of fun with it, nothing special. A week later the network adapter came out, I got bored with Twisted Metal in minutes, and started checking games for online capability.
MC2 from that point, ate weeks and months of my life. 6 or 7 hours every single night of the week almost and longer at weekends. I was still playing it (although far less so as it was quieter online) on the Xbox a few months ago, and now I'm addicted to MC3.
Best impulse buy ever, just picked it up because I was bored and NOTHING interesting had come out for a few months.

I'll have to add PoP: Sands of Time to my list too. On one hand, the jumping puzzles are pretty well done in this game. Unfortunately, the combat was repetitive, uncontrollable and so full of cheap deaths to make the game basically unplayable. At least this one wasn't a total loss, I paid $20 and was able to sell it off a week later for $15.neorichieb1971 wrote:Worst -
