You need to change the screen mode to one that is within the monitor's specs. Can't tell you exactly how to do it in XP but I would boot into safe mode and try playing with the display properties, or failing that, hunt for it in the registry and change it there. Then reboot in normal mode and hopefully you'll get a display.

This would have been the blindingly obvious thing to do.
