Why to megadrive cartridge stickers peel?

Post by Skykid »

Weird phenomenon. Happens to lots of carts - usually the valuable ones - but not all.

Anyone know why this happens? I'm assuming design defect.

change in adhesive would be the likely culprit. maybe you can trace the peelers to a year in which they were made.

There must be a fix. I need something that won't stain through and is light, but strong enough to stay fixed.
I was thinking maybe it's the heat from beneath the cartridge vent causing them to come unstuck at the lip.
Never saw it happen to a PAL cart though.

Yeah, but they're PAL, which makes them automatically duff. :D

You can trust me, I used some glue in stick (not in tube...)!

I put the glue under the label and press it with a little tissue to clean all the remaining glue!

I've done that many years ago and the carts are still like new and it's invisible! ;)

And, yes, it's due to the heat on Japanese Carts! The label covers the 2 sides of the cart and when the heat go out, it passes through the label...

On PAL or US carts, the label is on one side only! ;)

Happens to all the same carts. You're right, too: it touches the rarest ones. My Eliminate Down cart is as mint as they come (even without insertion marks), yet the sticker is lifted about 2mm form the edge of the sticker, as if the glue didn't go to the edge. Same goes for my minty Battle Mania 2. The labels are still intact and not "peeling", but I can see them lifting upon close inspection. WHen pushed down they stay there, but when I look at the cart the next day they're still up.

I've seen several copies of Alien Soldier, and all had the same "issue". Saw a couple of Panorama Cotton and Gleylancer, never saw one of those peeling. I had a discussion with a fellow member about this in private 4-5 months ago (Grinning Cat) and if I remember correctly he experienced exactly the same.

^^^Yeah, I always press the lables down in hopes that just this once they will stay there to no avail. I thought about the re-glue scenario but my dumb ass would just make it worse. Of course the lables for my Arrow Flash and Verytex carts are fine. :?

It peels more likely because the label have to turns around on the cart's round top.

To stick it back, you could use White Glue. It colourless after dry, any excess glue could be easily cleared with a little water, and it is easily to apply if you use a small stick.
