Stuff like MM9 makes me want to puke so nay. Old school, great. Freakin' cheapass cash-in, no. They could make a much greater game with current tech if they kept the same spirit as the NES games. Similar to how Gradius Gaiden was a huge step forward for Gradius and yet kept the Gradius spirit and was greater than anything else before it.
"Sooo, what was it that you consider a 'good salary' for a man to make?"
"They should at least make 100K to have a good life"

Complaining about the lack of "greatness" in a game you've never played seems rather pointless.

Anyway, I haven't enjoyed any MegaMan games as much as the NES games. I didn't like the larger on-screen sprite of the SNES games, and I didn't really like much at all on anything later.

If there's a chance that using old graphics might result in a good MM game, then it's a worthy experiment and I'm all for it.

I always thought that the Megaman Zero series was brilliant (aside from the useless running around and talking to people, I mean the actual stage action). Take the intro stage to MMZ2 for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4KWoMOcE3E. This is what I believe a modern Megaman should look and play like.

...and then we had Megaman Powered Up which actually IS "keeping the same spirit as the NES games but with current tech", but I thought it sucked balls. The thing is, people associate the old games with the old graphic style and the old music.

So really, I´d like to hear from you how you want to combine the "spirit of the old games" with "current tech" in a way that doesn´t make it look completely awkward and out of place. Yeah, it is trying to get people on their nostalgic memories. But I really don´t see what´s SO BLATANTLY WRONG!!! with this. What I´ve seen so far tells me that they actually put a lot of thought into this. Maybe you´re angry about it because you think this is a "fake retro" thing. It certainly is. But I still don´t see what´s wrong with that.

And another thing - you talk about graphics and game mechanics like they are completely separable things. If Capcom goes ahead and creates a "true" NES sequel, using NES sprites is actually a much more sensible decision than using high-res sprites or polygons, because that´s what people remember these games to be like, and that way it doesn´t feel completely out of place. They see 8-bit Megaman and think "Hey, it´s old Megaman again". I don´t have a Wii anymore and I don´t really like Megaman all that much, but I appreciate that for once somebody tries to fully go through with this concept. It´s still up to Capcom to make the "best game evar", but this time it´s about nostalgia and feeling like in the early 90ies again.

And really, is it doing any damage to your gaming? It´s such a honest and innocent effort, I wonder why people throw "CASH IN" all over it. If they released it on disc like everybody screams for others would have complained "NO WAY I`M PAYING FULL PRICE FOR A NES GAME!!!".

What we still don´t know, obviously, is whether or not the level design and bosses will be any good; meaning if it´s going to be a good game in its own right. I guess they could always just lazily slap together random stages and rehashed bosses, but that would mean it´s a bad game outside of any "retro-style" discussion.

I have nothing against using obsolote hardware (I'm quite enthusiastic about chiptune music, for instance). I love old video games and the aesthetic that was born because of the technical limitations and it's definetly worth expanding and developing further.

From the videos I've seen and the interviews I've read related to this game though, it seems to be marketed towards (and designed for) people who are looking to relive their childhood, not players who are looking for a great, new action game. It looks like they are developing something that has already been done before (and eight times at that, lol) and I can't see for what good. I mean platformers, run n guns (and even Rockman games?) have come a long way since then.

Nay.

At this point, I just want more of the same good 2D and don't mind paying for it. If you're all stuck up for originality in a time where original sidescrollers don't sell at all on consoles, then feel free to keep living in fantasyland while I continue playing games in my favorite series.

forget the haters..... I cant wait for MM9 to come out. People complain Capcom never listens to the fans, now that they are people are put off and sickened by it.... Just goes to show, you can never make everyone happy.

I havent read any of the articles or seen any videos (do they exist?) because frankly I dont have time to invest in it, but I also know I will be getting the game when it is available so I dont want to spoil it for myself in the meantime. If Capcom is marketing it towards people who want to relive their youth....awesome! What a way to give back to your fans.

Oh... and the Mega Man X series was spectacular. Youre missing out if you relegate those to the junk bin.

Yes. If it's a cash-in, then so be it. More companies actually need to do this.
