A couple of "New Forum" ideas

Post by Nate »

I'd like to gather some thoughts on what you might think of adding two new forums...well, one may work better than the other. I had these ideas last week, and yeah I know there are a load of them already but...

I had just beaten Cyber Core (1cc) for the first time (I have someone to thank for that "speed flag" tip...can't remember who right now) and as I was reading the credits, it hit me; we should have a forum dedicated to a compiling of those responsible for our favorite games...at least as far as we know. Like their names may be on the end credits...some of us may have to dig a little deeper to find some others. It could be called "geneology" or something like that...It would be great for reference and the fun of compiling and searching for the info of all those involved and cross-referencing as well?

The other forum idea I had was kind of a fan art or "shmup love" forum where we could provide links or post artwork/music/ideas to build on; total nerd shit for which I'm down. A designated spot for musicians and artists who aren't so concerned about development (although that could be a good resource as well at some capacity) of their own games as they are just compelled to show their appreciation for the genre ever.

This could be a good thread, but it doesn't warrant entire sub-forum.

I like this idea, however such forum would be almost totally empty, just like development forum.

BTW: What happened to that remix album? Should I finish that remix or is it officially dead?

Agreed. I'd see this as similar to the Glossary or Chronology of Shooting threads -if the project was successful/got enough interest it could possibly be stickied.

As for the other idea, we already pretty much have a thread for that.

Actually, a database would be more appropriate. Like IMDB, but for shmups. Then you could click on a specific developer and see other games he's worked on, etc.

I am a skilled programmer, I could do this.

That sounds like a good idea. I wonder if there really are that many different individuals involved in making shmups through the years. You get the feeling most of those people have been around for a long time.

Some other people are working on a database of who worked in what - I forget the URL unfortunately, but I believe CRV worked (or still does) on it. Digital Press Forums oldtimers.

Yeah, three.
Geometry Wars remix is almost done, though i don't really like how it turned out.
Now i'm working on music from Gigawing lava level and Raiden stage 2.

Ok, then I know what kind of shmup "era" to go on. I'll stray away from something too obscure and stay on a somewhat domesticated retail avenue.

Gimme a day or so to get a framework started...give or take a week. :P

I find Vbulletin a confusing mess, and it's expensive too. I'm already paying $130 a month to run this place, more expenses would not be welcome.

The more I think about this, the more I realize it would be more appropriate if it covered all video games and was it's own website. Unfortunately, it would be a ton of work. I could easily set up the site, submission forms, etc, but I have no idea who would fill in all the game data. I wouldn't want to do it all myself. Heck, I can barely get the credits to roll in most games, let alone find time to enter it all in a database. I also expect any volunteers would give up after adding about a dozen games.

Ever thought to put a donate paypal button? I'm sure many members would send a couple dollars every month. :)

I see. In my usual leecher tradition, I was not fully aware of the costs.

Has a sort of wiki been discussed before?

There aren't enough members to support a sub-forum like that. I think making The Creative Thread a sticky would suffice.

A formal thanks is in order - you'll find it in the "Shmup Ticker" thread!

But, thanks again. CC really is twice as cool w/ that bit of knowledge.
