dreamcast arcade sticks

Post by gennss »

Which dreamcast arcade sticks work well?
After having problems with the dreamcast light gun, i don't really feel comfortable buying an accessory without asking.

The agetec is pretty good. Also, and I know this from experience, it's pretty simple to mod for a Sanwa JLF stick. And it's hard to get a more authentic Japanese cab experience without actually getting one :P

a company that makes japanese arcade parts. the sanwa jlf is probably the most well liked joystick out there.

all different kinds of buttons and joysticks in there. to break it down, american parts are made by HAPP or IL. japanese parts are made by sanwa or seimitsu. there are some other companies out there, but those are the mains.

if you want to learn a lot about arcade parts and building/modding arcade sticks, check out the forums at shoryuken.com. specifically the tech talk forums. you can learn pretty much all there is to know just by reading threads there for a while.

I have asci sticks, but I only use them for Capcom fighters. I use the original DC pad for 99% of my DC shmupping.

My favorite thing about these sticks (besides the smooth optical stick) is that they have built in rumble. Some people may laugh at that idea, but it really is requisite when playing Rez.

Yes, on my modded Agetech DC arcade stick for use with DC & supergun gaming needs, it has Seimitsu parts for the joystick and push buttons. Whatever preference of Sanwa or Seimitsu parts for your shmupping needs, it's just a matter of personal taste. ^_~

So, anyone could recommend a stick + buttons that easily fit into the Agetec ?

http://www.lizardlickamusements.com/pag ... tons.shtml

http://www.lizardlickamusements.com/pag ... icks.shtml

- basically I want to keep the original look of the stick (so they have to be green) but I desperately want high quality parts.

Are there buttons and sticks that do fit the Agetec case so I don't need to widen the holes ?

The Seimitsu LS-55 has a small enough base so you don't need to clear away the "railing" that goes around the original stick's base. You just need to cut off four round housings that stick up into the base of the original stick. This is all inside the case, I'm talking about.

I believe all 30mm buttons will need the top plate filed to fit through.

I use converters so I can use the Hori Fighting Stick SS and the Namco Yellow/Black PSX joysticks on the DC. Both are pretty good sticks.
