Any drama series fans?

hi,

I'm looking for some good drama series. I've enjoyed The L Word, Nip/Tuck or Skins a lot but the well seems to dry up pretty fast.

So any thoughts ?

Six Feet Under
Rome
Angels in America
Dexter
Carnivale (even though it was a huge, unfinished cliffhanger, I still enjoyed it immensely)

HBO and Showtime pretty much reign supreme with this genre of television. I never could get into Oz or The Shield though, just not my thing I guess. And Deadwood just became boring drivel going into the third season.

Of that list above though, I highly recommend Rome. I was addicted to it and watched every episode over the course of three days.

I second 6 Feet Under, great stuff.

Carnivale is also excellent, albeit short (plug pulled after 2 seasons). Still worth a watch though.

Twin Peaks is also a classic.

Life At Shmups totally jumped the shark with last DDP hi-score drama. It was just soooo predictable.

Totally forgot about Twin Peaks. It's definitely not for everyone, but it is quite good if it ends up being your thing.

Surprised you mentioned Skins. I didn't think that show would travel well at all. Even in the UK it's pretty divisive.

I discovered it through the web cause there's no broadcasting here in France. The season 2 finale is awefully sad...

Thanks for your advice btw, I usually check Showtime's drama series and it's quality indeed. I LOVE Dexter !

It's a strange format for a show. The third series is going ahead, but it won't have any characters from the 1st two series, which is interesting. I like the idea of a big swap around every 2 series

I'm just partway through the first season of Weeds and it's pretty good, but I'm told the later seasons aren't so great. I've heard great things about Dexter and Six Feet Under from friends although I've yet to watch them.

I think the first season of Weeds was the strongest. Second season was alright, then the third season gets a little too goofy. Still a good watch though.

And I forgot about Big Love, another HBO hit. Basically about a family of mormons trying to keep their lifestyle a secret. Good stuff.

3 pretty much faultless 'cop' shows, especially the first and last ones.

Also, one of the writers behind The Wire says he was having trouble convincing himself he had anything left to write about, "The Wire said it all."

As far as fictional drama goes, Wire is great, Sopranos is often great too (Paulie Walnuts listening to Art of War on cassette or calling somebody a prick = gold), hell there's a lot of great gangster movies out there.

I wouldn't give up the Crime Library site or Wikipedia (for reading rants or apologetics edited in by mob affiliates)
