My dvd drive is getting old and the game often locks up, so I've been playing from an image I ripped from the (legit) disc. The questchin is will I be able to play using the image/virtual drive copy on battle.net without getting in trouble
Alsew in custom games it says 'use map settings for allied play' on the allied maps, but when I pick that option all the computer players disappear and I can't add any more. They say theres supposed to be a diplomacy button but i'm not seeing it, what is quite the dealy o with that business
starcraft questions
When your key is legit battle.net doesn't care about your cd, in the newest version you can even play without a cd if you copy certain files to your sc folder (yeah blizzard is awesome).
As for your other question don't play against computers. But seriously I don't know, just don't use map settings then.

Geez, it's been so long since I've played StarCraft... I THINK you can only click on someone's name and set them as an ally if you're playing on Battle.net, not if you're just running one of the tons of maps Blizzard put out with computer players. Ditto for the unusual "use map settings" maps; they can only be played with another human. But I could be wrong.

Use Map Settings uses special custom settings for user created custom maps that don't play by the normal melee rules. An easy way to have some computer allies in melee is to set the mode to Top vs. Bottom, where any computers that you place in the top team with you will automatically be allied with you (download the patches from battle.net if you don't have this mode)
