It seemed like two seperate concepts (about the girl and the general guy), and the whole movie hinged on the interaction between their lives, yet I felt their lives were almost totally seperate and neither seemed to have a clue about the other, which seemed to invalidate the whole plot. It was like the audience could have used some fantasy escape world (after watching the guy for so long), but not the girl, who was never even around. Unless she just really hated living in the mountains.
I seem to recall being told that the girl imagined the whole thing with the Faun.

Pan and Children of Men are both remarkable movies that are so for very different reasons.

I own both in HD-DVD format (yeah, I know), and out of the lot of HDs I have, they're the ones I rewatch the most often (along with The Fountain). Pan is, in my opinion, the "better", most complete one, one that will be revered for many years to come for countless reasons, but COM is the certainly most entertaining. A great watch for those who have yet to see it.

You've got me interested in "The Fountain". I'll have to catch that one sometime.

If you remotely liked other works by Aronofsky (Pi and Requiem for a Dream) then give it a shot. It's very different, and is not an easy movie; reminds me a bit of 2001, but with better cinematography and more poetry.

Great stuff :)

Regarding Children of Men; here's one vote for liking it because the premise WAS NOT explained. In a sense there is some parallel with romero's zombie movies because there is an apocalypse (in this case, more subtle because it is not immediate) without an explanation. The decay of the moral fabric of society (again, gradual) is pretty damn cool. There is a lot to think about in this film and it is incredible to watch.

I just finished watching "The Fountain" (Blu-Ray) tonight. What an incredible movie. It just blew me away. I also have Pi and Requiem for a Dream, but have yet to watch those.

Glad you liked it; it grew to be a personal favorite of mine (and I see tons of movies!). I really like the timelessness of the SFX/story/poerty going on there. I also really like the fact that it's opened to interpretation. As a fan of Kubrick, I will go out on a limb and pronounce the sacrilegeous words: I prefer The Fountain to 2001.

Pi is really an hectic movie, the editing, as you'll see is very brutal. My g/f really has trouble watching it for that reason :) Great stuff!

Requiem will remain my favorite Aronofsky, and one of the movies I enjoy most overall (still sits in my top 5 movies ever...). Tell us what you thought of them when you watch them!
