My whole family lives just outside of the LA area. I just tried calling by brother and of course couldn't get through. I was just watching some footage on CNN and things didn't look too bad at all but who knows...

Naw, nothing to write home about. I actually thought something ran into our building at first. I do prefer the California quake to the Michigan tornadoes though. :)

It felt pretty intense, but it wasn't big enough to be a cause for any major concern. When it started I thought for sure it was going to be the big one, though.

Now the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, that was really something. Even in the Central Valley of California, it still could be felt 90-100 miles away from the epic-center. I recall turning on the TV and Dan Rather of CBS News was reporting that the Oakland Bay Area Bridge had just collapsed. From his news reports, it sounded like it was the worst-case senario ever (as if the entire bridge had crashed into the S.F. Bay waters). In reality, only a certain section of it had broken off.

The "Big One" mother of all earthquakes is yet to come in the next 30-40 years for the California region. It's coming so be prepared for it.

You guys are pussies.

My dad sent me this though which I thought was funny.
There was a 5.4 earthquake in California this morning felt from L.A. to San Diego. The Cowboys are at training camp in Oxnard and one of them, a black guy I did not recognize, made a very profound observation with which I am in 100% agreement. His statement: "The ground is not supposed to move."

All quite amusing since I'm moving to LA on Friday.

Can't wait for the Big One. Hope it happens while I'm teaching
