Dark Knight
Keep in mind the imdb top 250 list is just a popularity poll. I mean, if I did a similar poll for music, you'd probably hate a lot of what was on that list. My tastes are alternatively either very conservative/traditional or weird with little interest in what's in between. I can't stand much of what's in the top 10 or so and don't really know why it deserves to be there--but it isn't the cmoon's top 250, it is a general poll. So I guess most people REALLY like shawshank redemption and godfather. More power to 'em.

Technically maybe (a "fit" is not necessarily violent and in any case is not really intended to cause fear so much as it is to make the parent wish to avoid the irritation of a crying little shit), but the terms terrorist/terrorism are generally used to describe things on a much grander scale.Mortificator wrote:By that definition a mugger, a priest, and a kid who says he'll throw a fit if he can't have a toy are all terriorists.terrorist noun
a person who tries to frighten people or governments into doing what he/she wants by using or threatening violence
In any case JoshF's main complaints about the movie were tiny semantics complaints and not really worth arguing over, though I'm quite pleased that it lead to a nugget like
The Joker has more reverence for freedom and humanity than anyone who believes the literal and accrued definitions are the same thing.

Also, I've come to believe that the article moozah posted in my batman topic is ballpump. It's the 90s, and Batman isn't dealing with purse snatchers anymore. The nylonz don't cut it. In a lot of comics they show some type of thin flexible armor under the suit anyway.

Every time I see this complaint about the movie (okay yours is only the second, but the other was some hotshot reviewer on NPR or I dunno whar tha fuck) I think "how?" All the more ironic on a site dedicated to people following a dozen (at least) things with their eyes simultaneously.
The tunnel chase would've been easier to follow if they didn't have so many cuts; sure, it would've been easy to follow if they did it all in one continuous take. It'd also be pretty boring, too!

It was ok, just ok. Udderdude has plenty of valid points with this one. Hollywood needs some one who can actually write decent scripts, and decent dialogue.
Ledger, was top-notch, I knew he would be.
I'd give the film a 7.5 - and that's good for me cos I'm strict - but no more than that.
For the record Maggie Gylenhall was utterly shit. And pretty ugly too.

I can't believe I wasted 3hours and my hard-earned money to watch this!
Yeah some of the dialogue & script was quite good (even humorous) and well written. Equally good was Ledger's performance as the Joker.
However, this was inferior to the previous Batman Begins and it pales compared to the original 1989 Batman film with Jack Nicholson as the Joker.
Oh..and that actress “Maggie Gyllenhaal” playing Batman’s ex-chick, that’s one ugly bitch!
I bet she must have known the producer or something to get this role…
As for the guy playing Batman, I don’t know but he just doesn’t look right for this role and the new Batman mask looks so retarded.
Morgan Freeman & Michael Caine were pretty cool in their roles.
Well, at least it felt like an old-school 90’s film…

Considering all the hype, I was expecting the movie to fall short of it for me.
Am glad to say it didn't.
This was one hell of a ride so to say. Loved the style and "realism" of the script. Realism in the sense that the society portrait seemed like a real one instead of a made one and the characters indeed almost all got some depth in them instead of just being figurant.
Ledger really impresses, and after this film I can understand why his death was so shocking to a lot of people. He REALLY had talent.
The Joker could never be the same after this.
*spoilers ahead*
only part I found truly unbelievable/unexplainable was with Batman attacking the truck with Joker in it and finally crashing attempting to drive him over. I just didn't get that.
*/spoilers*
All in all well worth a watch, and I might see it a second time in the theater too. On a scale of 1 to 10: 8.5

He decided not to crash into the Joker because he can't break his rule of not killing anybody. He crashed and let the Joker attack him to distract him and let Gordon ambush him.

lolz, you guys are funny. You keep going on about how good the script was, but the dialogue was very poorly written indeed - same as all the other Hollywood shlock.
Ledger improvised a lot, which improved his depth. The rest was wincingly bad, especially Morgan Freeman's lets-fill-the-audience-in-cos-they're-too-thick-to-figure-it-out lines.
Open your ears willya. People don't talk that way.

Leave it to Skykid to inject some much-needed I AM A PRO CONVERSATIONALIST AND THEIR SCRIPT WAS DECIDEDLY LACKING into the thread! Three cheers.
Only some of the dialogue is conceivably poor. Mr. Caine's lines probably aren't significantly better than some of the rest, but his timing and character makes the jokes work and the serious bits believable.
Dent had some rather stilted sounding stuff, but since when haven't politicians sounded odd?
There was one cop transferring Dent who has some quotes right out of Aliens - that was just intentionally cheesy.
I don't remember much else at the moment, since it's pretty late.
Of course, Skykid probably complains about the dialogue in Address Unknown, too.

I'm sure you got me mixed up with someone else.
For the record, I did enjoy the film, but I'm standing by my opinion. The general public is either far too easily pleased, far too forgiving, or far too used to sub-par movies to sort the wheat from the chaff.
Or all of the above.

I had no problem with the dialog but maybe I've been conditioned by movies to overlook unrealistic conversation. I'll concede that. I can still overlook that because the rest of the movie was incredible. The plot, themes, action...

Every movie has many flaws and scripts errors and what not.
This movie was great and I would go as far as saying that if you don't like this film, you must hate Hollywood, because this is the best movie of 2008 to come out of Hollywood (not sure yet, but most likely)
quick, everybody to the theatre!

After all, it's a fact that the majority of modern Hollywood films are just sub-par, insanely overpriced with non-existent (or minimum) meanings, boring script & storylines and overly relying on CGI.

Me? I thoroughly enjoyed the Dark Knight. Sure, it may not be the 'deepest' film ever, but as cliched as it sounds - I try to enjoy films for what they are, rather than what they're not.
I just think it did everything (within the confines of its own niche/genre, anyway) near-perfectly. Yes, if I was trying to compile a list of my 100 all-time favourites, it would be pretty unlikely to figure...but it should definitely be considered up there with the best of what mainstream Hollywood has managed in the last decade.
Haters - just remember; elitism isn't mandatory. It is possible to like indie/world stuff as well as some Hollywood!
