Anyone know if Onechanbara is region-free for 360?

Post by 8 1/2 »

We're getting the Wii one here in the states, but I'd prefer the 360 version. Are all Japanese 360 games region locked, or just some? Does anyone know if this title in particular will work on a US 360?

A quick google search found this - I know P-A has a list like this too (and this one used it as a source), but I'm not sure offhand how accurate it is. Anyways, according to it, Oneechanbara doesn't work on non-JP consoles.

I thought everything in JP land was region locked on 360. Supposedly its best to get a 360 from Japan and actually just buy domestic releases that will run on it.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

That's what I figured. I can't believe I'm going to buy a japanese 360. Ketsui X better actually come out some day.

It's region locked.

Strangely enough I ordered this game last week. It looks fun. I just finished playing through Dead Rising and I'm interested in some more zombie action. Well, I could always tackle 5 and 7 day survivor, but I think I'll wait until Microsoft release their "read from HDD, disc in tray as proof that you own the game" thing before taking on them. Because not being able to save in a game where there's constant disc read errors is a bad thing.

And, yes, the 360 version is apparently the better version. Also, apparently the level design isn't that great, but I don't really mind, since mindless hack 'n slash games can be fun just for what they are.

Yeah, it's a damn shame. Microsoft is probably just trying to inflate their Japanese xbox sales statistics.

And it's too bad that you can mod a 360 to play bootleg games, but you can't mod it to play foreign region games. I'd kill to have it the other way around.

Its supposed to come out in '08. Hopefully it does. And supposedly 5PB has a lot of stuff lined up after DDP DOJ Black Label and Ketsui X as well, so its only going to get better. :D

No, they don't (they've never said that).

Fine, they don't have stuff lined up necessarily. But they did get a bunch of IPs to port a lot of arcade games to the Xbox360. So logically, once they finish Ketsui and DDP DOJ BL, if those sell a few copies (which they should I would think), then one would think they would bring some more stuff to the 360.

No, logically one would follow what they said, which is they took their two most promising projects to retail. If there were more promising projects, they would have said so. They're not going to release the scraps later on.

It remains to be seen whether Ketsui or DDP:DOJ BL will even make any money. Ibara, the last CAVE release on the PS2 (a much larger user base), sold only ~4000 copies and its "best edition" was cancelled due to lack of interest.

Thats what I meant. If Ketsui and DDP DOJ sale decently, then we might see more stuff from them.

Obviously, if it sells like shit, we won't.

Also EOJ, how did the Cave stuff do on the PS2 in general? Did they all sell below 10,000 copies?

Espgaluda and DDP:DOJ each sold about 15K, but they're still in print (Arika keeps printing new batches so that they will continuously be available). I think Mushi was around 10,000 (including the small "best edition" reprint). Ibara was around 4000.

I certainly hope Ketsui and DDP:DOJ BL sell well. It would be nice to get more ports in the future. I'm just not getting my hopes up quite yet. We have to see how good the Ketsui and DDP:DOJ BL ports are first. Ketsui will probably sell better.

This is true. 5PB haven't really done anything worth noting thus far, so I hope they do right with these ports. Defnitely can't wait for Ketsui X regardless.

No clue what they would consider good sales though. It seems like Senko no Ronde and Shikigami no Shiro 3 both sold around 10K in Japan, no idea how Raiden Fighters Aces fared.

This game is OK. I would recommend it if you can buy it under $30.

But don't expect anything wonderful.. D3 Publisher originally started out by releasing really basic, super budget games & most of them were crap. Only EDF and this have been successful..

Hey, I think some of those Simple 2000 Series games are pretty good...

Anyways, I've been thinking about picking up one of the PS2 versions. Anyone know how they hold up to the 360 game?

Oh I know the game is mostly crap. I'm just a sucker for B horror flicks. I even toughed my way through Alone in the Dark and had some fun. I will probably wait until there's an actual release date for the Cave titles. I don't really need another version of DOJ, but obviously Ketsui would be a steal even at $450 or so for the price of the console and disc (plus HD support is a given).

I'm on my fourth US 360. My first one RRODed, the second one was plagued with disc read errors every 15-20 minutes and the third one had the disc tray itself go out and I was forced to physically pull the drive open each time I changed games. I had fairly well given up on MS, but their desperation to gain some fantasy hold in Japan has secured them these key titles and they don't even really understand the audience for them.

Actually i liked the three PS2 Oneechanbara's and completed the first 2 on the PS2, not amazing games but enjoyable.. If they can release Earth Defence Force they can damn well release this or I will be forced to buy a Jap 360 for this and Shigagami 3

Dear god the graphics are awful. It's seriously a PS2 game in a 360 case. The controls aren't exactly good either, with you having to hold the RB trigger to target enemies, and it automatically switches to the closest enemy to you.

Anna (girl with the gun) just destroys everything that isn't a boss. Targetting zombies that die in 2-3 hits from a pistol means you'll be killing a huge amount of zombies in a short amount of time.

Unfortunately, the bad graphics and controls are what bring this game down the most. If it didn't have those, it'd be so much better. I definitely wouldn't import a 360 just for this game, or I'd be terribly disappointed.

Another issue is the level design. There's a lot of backtracking and going over the same areas often. I'm used to it, since I've played through DMC4, but you have to go through one area three times with different characters. It's tedious as hell.

Despite all the flaws, it's still fun to chop up zombies as a half naked chick. The levelling system is a good idea, too. And I like how they give you a "dress up" mode so you can see what accessories you've obtained and actually use them while playing your game, and not AFTER you've beaten everything.

I'll most likely play this again. It's mediocre, but it's a half naked chick with zombies. From what I can understand, Tamsoft haven't learned anything from their previous titles, and it's not that they aren't willing to upgrade their games to look better, based on the fact that the character models are highly detailed. It's just that they can't.

i'd like to play this game. I really enjoyed Bullet Witch and Earth Defense Force, although they both have their flaws that could be fixed.

this game spares no good quality. AVOID at all cost..this is a simple 2000 series..i rather play DOA Extreme at least its nice 3d rendered. the graphics are choppy as fuck..almost bad as saturn 3d games.
The cave whore count in this thread is unbelievable!!!
