Darren Aronofsky to direct Robocop remake!?!

I guess the fact that the studios are waiting this short of a time between remakes shows just how dry the creative well has gone. Even more suprising was the director named for the project. I don't know if I should be curious or run for the hills. Interesting to say the least.

I don't really know what to make of this news. Robocop is one of the best movies of the 80's (hands down), and Aronofsky is really a great director (Requiem for a Dream, Pi and The Fountain are favourites of mine). I'm still a bit scared as to how this will turn out but...
I say, why not?

I enjoyed Pi. But robocop was a great film i am intrigued to see what they do with it

Of all the utterly useless Directors
- Like Paul WS Anderson -
They could do far worse than Aronofsky.

This is gonna be awesome. Especially if he gets Bottin to do the suit design again. I wonder if DA is still working on that Lone Wolf and Cub project he was talking about a few years ago. I'm all for reboots. Why not? We remix and cover music and nobody complains.

I don't like the idea of waiting for the next generation of babies to grow into their teens so they can re-make Blade Runner with Zac Efron, directed by Zack Snyder.

They could probably reap a higher profit margin by just rereleasing the uncut (director's cut) version of robocop to the big screen. I'd buy that for a dollar!

Other than the boardroom scene with ED 209 and Murphy's death sequence, the dc version of the movie isn't that big a deal. The difference wouldn't be substantial enough for many to notice.CMoon wrote:They could probably reap a higher profit margin by just rereleasing the uncut (director's cut) version of robocop to the big screen. After some thought, I think that if Aronofsky weren't there I'd be pissed they're doing a remake. I'm just curious because DA has yet to direct a crappy movie.
But as Ceph pointed out, great movies should be left alone!
@skykid: PTA took it to another level with There Will Be Blood. I would have agreed last year on him being somewhat overrated, but now you can't diss the guy

in b4 murphy gets turned into a pixar animated can opener with a squeaky voice ("what's your name son" will also need to be changed because he'll be black now)
Kwame Kilpatrick as the bad guy. He shoves Murphy into a judge and then Murphy has a minor hip fracture, and that's how it all beginst0yrobo wrote:I'm sure the city of Detroit is thrilled about this  . I hope they film it there.

The first two Robocop films were legendary for their use of stop-motion special EFX, with RC-2 using it alot more. ^_~
Only if Peter Weller reprised had his role of Robocop for the 3rd film and if it had a better film script, then it would've not have been turned into a such messy sci-fi film that current exists now.
That hot Latina model/actress Sofia Vergara (she's the chick that's covered with that solid colored sunscreen on the fake commercial shown on the TV monitor during Robocop 2 film) has a really nice hourglass figure alrighty and a substantial rack as well. ^_~
PC Engine Fan X! ^_~

Lol, no worries! I was a bit confused as to what you were talking about, after There Will be Blood, PTA has terrific potential.KindGrind wrote:Righty, read too fast... My bad! Sorry Skykid!

Yeah, Funkadelic sounds so much better when there's a skitching hack shouting over it.

Hahahaha, Darren Aronofsky?! I bet 90% of the content is going to be annoyingly blatant moralization then.

It's NOT a simple remake. Storywise it's a sequel and overall pretty much a complete reboot.
While it may be a surprising decision to reanimate the franchise, choosing Aronofsky as a director is not. He came pretty close to directing Batman: Year One after all, a project that turned into Batman begins under Nolan.

Would've been nice if they had stuck with Alex Proyas *for Batman like they were fucking supposed to 14 years ago.

I don't see the point of this. Decent remakes are very few and far between. There's nothing wrong with the original too.

Let's just hope the new RoboCop isn't going to be another 3 when it comes to gore. Murphy's death from part 1 should be shown in a flashback.
I hope the gross rumor I heard about Beverly Hills Cop 4 going PG-13 is false. If it's so, then Brett Ratner can "Get tha fuck outta here!". Hearing that Terminator 4 WILL be PG-13 was bad enough news already.
If they're going to put out a castrated 4th installment to theaters, they'd better have an Unrated edition ready for DVD. A PG-13 rating for a movie like this may as well be DG-13 - Don't Go if you're older than 13.

Kinect? KIN NOT.
Again, it's not a remake. More like a complete reboot and sequel. Usually the idea behind a remake is to try a different or updated approach. Never heard of a remake that was trying to fix the original though.bloodflowers wrote:I don't see the point of this. Decent remakes are very few and far between. Everyone who's familiar with the brilliant Robocop comic series by Frank Miller (art by Ryp) knows that the first film lay a good foundation that can be expanded upon.
My guess is that Aronofsky and the producers understand very well that this won't fly with a PG13. I expect a hard R.
