Oh god. Oh GOD no! Another 3D Sonic game!?! Who would buy THIS? Not me! After Sonic the Hedgehog 2006? No way!

Being pessimist is the best way to approach any game.

The night levels look tedious. I like beat em ups but the stage I saw demoed looked really dull and easy. The day time stage that I saw was promising in the level design department, which was my main problem with the last Sonic game.

I am skilled enough to survive the poorly implemented bottomless pits but intelligent enough to recognize it was poor level design and a detraction to the game.

The controls still don't look like they're enjoyable to use. I didn't play Sonic 2006, but that game had terrible controls. In fact, it pretty much killed the entire game.

Meh, I'm going to have to pass on this. I'm already fairly sceptical of Banjo 3 without another Sonic game to worry about.

Sega is dead to me. :x

But I hear the demo at E3 wasn't very impressive. And knowing Sega, it won't get impressive in the future.

I watched the full Let's Play of Sonic 2006. The controls were really awful and it gave them a rough time.

You should watch it.

Is there any Sonic game that DOESN'T have bad controls? Even 2D ones have awful slippery movement.

I think it will be better then Sonic 2006, but that's not saying much. Part of what killed Sonic 2006 for me, playing it at GameCrazy, was the fact that you had to purchase abilities for Sonic in the first town. That's totally ridiculous; that would be like having to purchase, for Mario, his ability to stomp on enemies!

But I don't think Sega's totally dead yet; the Sonic Rush series is pretty good, and we'll see how TF VI turns out.

Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow the Hedgehog were decent games. I think a lot of this anti-Sonic hype is just shitty gamemag copycat writing. Need to fill lines in an article? LOL SONIC SUCKS LOL. The 16-bit games are held up on this pedestal for their "nonstop speed," and as someone who's played through them tons of times I don't know what the hell they're talking about. The old games were short bursts of speed and lots of platforming.

I still think Sonic can potentially work better in 3D than he ever did in 2D. It's a little weird to make a game that relys on high speed when you can't see more than a few feet in front of you. In the 2D games you absolutely will take hits, unless:
* You trudge through at a crawl, which is completely against the core game mechanic.
* You memorize the whole zone.
* You have reflexes so fast you can 1-ALL a Psikyo vert on your first try.

I have to admit I haven't played 2006 or Secret Rings, though. Watch them be so terrible I sound like an idiot...

In SMRPG, you had to level up to learn how to do various techniques.

Sonic Rush was the best Sonic game since Sonic Adventure 1.

It also has music by Hideki Naganuma, of Jet Set Radio fame. It's the reason I bought a DS.

Put on your dunce cap and go sit in the corner. :P

Secret Rings had shite waggle controls. To compensate for that (or maybe because it's for Wii) the game was made pathetically easy. The plot was painfully bad, though that's been going on since SA2 so whatever. At least I had fun playing parts of SA2.

2006 was supposedly buggy and had inexcusable loading times. I wouldn't know; I have never played it and never will because I don't want to vomit on my console.

I really think the lame attempts at "plot" and "character development" Sonic Team keeps failing at account for a great deal of Sonic hate.
If they stopped putting in gimmick mechanics, creating annoying side characters and making humanoid women fall in love with a giant blue hedgehog...well, it'd be a start at any rate.

This man speaks the truth. Even in the first Sonic The Hedgehog, for the Genesis, there was the lava scene where Sonic had to stand on a block and wait to be carried to the other side. And, when he was underwater, you had to (and still do, in Sonic Rush) stop to get bubbles for air. None of the games were nonstop speed, even the Dreamcast ones. IMO, Sonic's universe got too crowded with characters, needlessly long plots, stupid racing games, and pits you couldn't even see (Sonic 2006).

Sonic and The Secret Rings actually looked pretty good (I owned it when I had my Wii), but the motion controls were terrible. It would've been a much better game, IMO, if they had just stuck with Dualshock3/360 controls, and not done it for the Wii.

What I've seen of Sonic Unleashed looks great, so far, and I do think that Sega can pull this off. I think they've probably listened to all the complaints about Sonic 2006-doesn't mean they'll fix them all, but I think this could be a great Sonic game.
