I remember the time I tried to bought a whole case full of Titan A&E PSX game demo discs.

I haven't seen the movie, of course.

I remember completely disliking this film.

I rather liked it despite some gripes with story handling and character development. thankfully Treasure Planet fixed those issues and had a far more solid visual style going for it.

I thought it was pretty good at the time, of course I was pretty young when I saw it.

I vowed never to see this film after reading a review that described it as being an 'american manga film'.

I even question the animation being good. The integration of hand animation and CGI is unforgivably bad. It alone is enough to sink the movie; but add the worthless plot and you have a big stinking pile.

After seeing it again last night I have to downgrade it from pretty good to merely ok (and I was planning on saying this before reading other's negative reactions). I liked it back before I developed critical thinking. Too many filler/soundtrack action sequences to show off the CG which isn't impressive in 2008. Also pretty corny and has a lot of cliches, but I don't mind either of those things a huge amount (it is a kid's movie, it's new to them).

Still worth seeing for free but not a 3.5/4 movie like Ebert makes it out to be

I Think Titan AE is a great movie :) I have it on DVD and must have seen it at least 3 times and reading this thread i want to see it again.
I like most "cartoon" that is not too childish or have lot's of songscenes (Disney mostly).
I find them relaxing and a good change from other more "difficult" movies i watch.
Some examples of good ones: Robots, the Emperors new Clothes, Cars, Iceage, Shrek, Surf's Up... plus many more.

Fox Interactive had Titan A.E. in development for the PSX and was slated for a PSX release...showcasing some pretty advanced graphical tricks for the aging PSX hardware but it was cancelled.

Don Bluth's Dragon Lair II laserdisc game was created rather quickly after the amazing success (and monetary success as well) earned from it's first laserdisc game from Rick Dyer Incorporated (RDI) but was finally released by Leland Corporation back in 1991 in a joint venture with Nintendo Co. Ltd.

This movie served as the final nail in the coffin for the production studio if memory serves.

Titan A.E. sucked to me. (opinion)

However, there were some memorable scenes like the water chase through the exploding balloon things and the crystals in space shattering towards the end...but that's just art and special effects and not story.

I crave a good solid storyline, which Titan A.E. did not have.

The problem is that Bluth SHOULD know exactly what he has been doing--he's certainly been doing it long enough. If you so happen to check out the commentary on the reissue of the Secret of NIMH DVD, you'll hear nothing but discussion of color pallet choice, layout, and basic graphic design wankery--enough to explain why so many of the Bluth films are pretty incredible to look at (though perhaps not actually incredible.) Titan AE seems to have really screwed up somewhere--perhaps not really understanding the teen demographic or not really understanding how to integrate the CGI (but that's their job!)

Yes, I heard this was the end for Bluth productions, and maybe with them exhibiting so many terrible mistakes with Titan AE, it isn't a terrible thing. These films are after all very expensive, and if you can't be bothered to construct a good plot or even make the thing you've assembled look good, well then maybe it is time you step aside for those who can (*ahem* Pixar).

You still cited The Day After Tomorrow as one of your favourite movies, and I'm never going to let you live it down, ever. That film is so shit, of the two, I do think Titan A.E. might actually have the upper hand. :D

Understood.

Titan A.E....I think I owned the DVD for a time but got rid of it, gave it to my nephew or something. I've seen worse movies, but I was disappointed with the film.

Day After 2morrow? Well, I don't want to stray too far from the topic but I thought it was pretty amazing. I actually had low expectations because I am NOT a fan of Dennis Quaid nor the Brokeback Mountain guy (dunno his name)...but I pleasantly surprised at their acting performances in the flick. Special effects were top notch.

Final Fantasy may be the better choice here (the first film)
But it also is one of those films in the 08/15 area.

When they outrun the 'temperature', as they race away from the falling 'temperature' down a corridor with the 'temperature' chasing after them, I, and those I was with, decided it was time to leave.

Full refunds at the desk for everyone.

If you liked it though that's cool, each to their own dude. I just thought it was some of the worst tripe I'd ever sat through, and another step toward the quickening decline of Hollywood films.
