Right off the bat the PS1 showed it had better 3D, when the xbox 1 and GC game out you could easily see some extra juice under the hood. Especially after a year.
I still think it's probable the PS3 has some extra power under the hood but this is a 1st for taking so long to show something over the other.
As far as I know the 360 only goes up to 720, whereas the PS3 does 1080p. But the only game that I own that has done 1080p is GTA4, and most games on all platforms already chug along at 30fps.
The PS3 versions of GTA4 and DMC4 were also slightly better graphically, but in a "run both at the same time and really look for things" kind of way (no tearing and pop-up). Another clear advantage is the storage, FFXIII isn't going to come on 3 DVD's and MGS4 had something stupid like 40gb of 7.1 audio.
As you say the CPU isn’t being used properly because companies, especially western ones, develop for the PC/360 first and then port to the PS3. So the unusual architecture is a disadvantage.
Anyway, the RPG’s I’m most looking forward to right now are Persona4 and Disgaea3, so to hell with graphics :)
