Well, just finished NFS Carbon. A very short game imo...only took me 3 days to clear career mode. The canyon races are cool, but there's nothing special besides that. I thought the territory control thing would be interesting, but in the end you're the only one really capturing anything. And the cops this time around hardly give you any trouble at all. I guess Most Wanted is indeed better.
Now, back to the shmups. Gotta work on the Progear 1-ALL.

Hi, new guy here (I didn't see an introduction thread, so I'll take care of that here--unless there is a place to do that and I just missed it, so please let me know
)
I've never been a die hard SHMUP fan but I've always found them...sadistically interesting despite really sucking at them (unless you count Super C which IIRC I 1cc'd if not 1-lifed way back then). I never really got into them partly because I never invested the time to really understand them and improve my skills, so I'm starting with some oldies.
Gradius (Gradius Collection-PSP)-Well I 1cc'd Very Easy, heh. I've tried to jump to Normal, but I think I'm going back down to Easy for practice.
Life Force (NES)-I always wanted to try this game growing up, which I now realize was an insane desire. Hard levels with easy bosses (sans level 2's bouncy balls). 1 Konami code and 2 continues later, I saw the ending. I'll come back to it at some point...when I have nothing else to play...or do...like watching grass grow.

Those bastard bombs with the big circular bullet rings that all explode very close to one another in the second form of the final boss? They are horrid!Taylor wrote:Progear coming out my ears. Hit game over on the last pattern two days ago... hopefully I can put it to rest soon.
I was exactly where you were a fortnight ago, and I got the Progear 1CC the other day, so you'll be there soon!
Nice one - I'm just getting into this properly. I'm at just under 900,000, but really want that million! Been away from my Wii too much this week though!-Bridget- wrote: Star Soldier R.
Finally broke 1 mil on 2-minute mode, so Im in a good mood over that.
I love a shmup you can complete while the kettle boils, or you wait for a computer to boot up.
Still working on Gradius. I've made a little progress on normal mode. I can 1-life levels 1 and 2 (1 most of the time, 2 some of the time) but 3 is kicking my butt. Thankfully the ability to save actually lets me practice the levels, but I think I need to try a different weapons configuration. 1 Option just isn't cutting it.
That's the puppy, I keep doing silly things on stage 4 (or rather, stage 4 boss) and haven't had another good attempt at him since. But he's going down sooner or later!spadgy wrote:Those bastard bombs with the big circular bullet rings that all explode very close to one another in the second form of the final boss? The first time I one-lifed it from the beginning to nailing the level four boss was the time I got the 1CC. Gives you plenty of room for error in level 5...Taylor wrote: That's the puppy, I keep doing silly things on stage 4 (or rather, stage 4 boss) and haven't had another good attempt at him since. The level four boss was a wall for me, but once you have him practiced it really opens up the game. And all those little enemies he unleashes are great for milking up to an extend.
By the way Taylor - get your score over on the Progear hi-score thread. If you're where you are now your score will be good enough.

I usually only have to bomb through the pattern where she hovers in the middle... but for some reason whenever I notice I'm doing a decent run I start playing like a goit.spadgy wrote:The first time I one-lifed it from the beginning to nailing the level four boss was the time I got the 1CC. I don't have any 'proof' of my scores at the moment. I'll hopefully swing by the arcade tomorrow and snap whatever I get there. Recorded my last run on MAME but my Stage 5 was so embarrassing I can't share it :)
I picked up Gradius V today (after seeing the ridiculous prices on EBay), and boy and I'm glad I did. I had forgotten how much fun I had with it years ago.
Still working on Gradius 1. I've realized that lasers are useless for me until stage 5 at which point I need them to take out the brains. Double just fits my play-style better (that style being bad

Mushihime.
Ultra.
And CURSE THAT STUPID FREAKING SCORPION IN STAGE 2.
If Im gonna mess up at all, it's gonna be RIGHT THERE. Dont have ANY trouble with the REST of that stupid stage (except for the boss).
But no, if Im gonna need to use a bomb, or if Im gonna blow up, it's gonna be against that freaking scorpion.

Re-discovering Cyber Core!
Gave it a spin tonight on the Duo after YEARS of never really playing it. I got to the 8th Stage and...something killed me fast; don't remember what it was. It's like Dragon Spirit on meth...lots of "twitchy" moments.
Need to get back in there and try to kick some ass. Damn, IGS! Why didn't you stick to verts!
