That little sweet anime scene in Kill Bill Vol. 1 is nothing compared to the gore shown the anime film of Crystal Triangle. The other worldly creatures that are slayed in it, you can literally seen the insides and various organ parts flying towards the camera's point of view -- ala first person perspective.

Not necessarily gory but the opening scene of Werner Herzog's Nosferatu is disturbing. A combination of images and sound really create an effectively macabre scene. Those who have seen it know what I mean. If not, check it out. Artsy movie but I like it.
PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Rob Bottin was only 21 when he was working on John Carpenter's The Thing remake. To this very day, there has never been a horror film that has eclipsed the techincal and imaginative special effects showcased in the 1982 film before or since then. You'd think that with today's big-budget gory/horror EFX, that it could be outdone.
It could be done, but some new stuff would have to be whipped and done with real-time puppetry EFX and not resort to CGI EFX used nowdays.
The technology is there. The talent is not.
For Sly Cherry Chunks,
Put together a world-class special EFX dream team and see what they can whip up. If the former Stan Winston were still around, it would be interesting to see what he could come up with to top the effects in the 1982 remake of "The Thing".
The French horror film of "Frontier(S)" is at Target and priced at a modest $14.99 USD -- is one of the "8 Films to Die For" horror film anthology series. Not a bad price btw. Picked it up yesterday, 7-11-2008 and popped it into the ol' DVD player. It is a film that gets underneath your skin...some folks will not want to watch it due to the series of events that the characters are subjected to. What a fucked up hostel group of thugs, especially the father figure.

Battle Royale is a classic to be sure, but aside from the hilltop scene and the kitchen scene, nothing about that movie was particularly gory IMO.
Almost forgot some...The Re-Animator and From Beyond, Day of the Dead, The Fly was pretty nasty, too.
I could say the same for Re-Animator , good movie but it didn't seem particularly gory (though the headless guy was awesome)
What about that whole surgical saw thing going through the chest scene? That was nasty.

You may well have a point there

Man, maybe I've seen too many horror movies when I can't quite recall which ones were the goriest. Is this that "desensitization" they always warn me about?
I guess I'd have to say anything by Troma usually has some decent gore in it. Most of the movies you guys have listen are pretty good... although I still haven't seen -any- Lucio Fulci movies. (I know, right? What kind of horror fan am I?)
This is not similation. Get ready to destoroy the enemy. Target for the weak points of f**kin' machine. Do your best you have ever done.
Well when you find some Fulci be careful. I've only seen 2 of his movies: Zombi 2, and something my gf picked up about a zombie in a basement that was long, boring, and HORRIBLE. I was actually in shock when his name came up in the credits
