Surface (2005) Sci-Fi tv show

Post by D »

Wow, what a great show this is.
Sci Fi all the way, way better than the average sci fi flick.
It's like a kind of Abyss spin off of sorts almost.
Better yet, I should call it: Abyss meets X-Files.

Here's a kind of related thread: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... ht=surface
I recommend scoring this show on dvd if you never saw/never aired in your part of the world.
Here's a nice clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybIkQ_P7TZY
Guess it got cancelled, amazing!
It's just one season, 15 eps, but they're long and good.

Thought I was the only one who liked this show... :)

Its plot and pacing reminds me of a Michael Crichton novel. My favorite moment is probably the opening of one of the first five episodes, from the point of view of a parasailer...

I also like the way each episode flows directly into the next, rather than being self-contained episodes, so basically if you buy the DVDs you get to experience it as a 10 hour long feature film. Casting has some fairly good eye candy too.

I like how Rich is always so paranoid and lunacy driven. He cracks me up. Kind of like Vince Vaughn in made. Out of all episodes, there is maybe 1 episode in the middle of the season that is boring, but it quickly picks up.

Thanks for mentioning the show, I haven't heard of it before. Since it got canceled, does it end on a cliffhanger or wrap up neatly?

Yes, a huge one. There was another sci-fi show in 2005 that was even better that also got cancelled: Invasion.

watched both of the series and loved them.

Neither got a 2nd season :(

Atleast Surface tried to wrap it up with while invasion was a cliffhanger to say the least...

I thought the ending of Surface was a pretty big cliffhanger, too...

It is, the US is flooded, they're up in a church and they got a few more tsunami waves coming and those grown up nimrods are also snooping around.
I should get into invasion again. watched it on tv, then lost track. I should check it from the beginning.
I guess everybody wants to see the same old cop shows and csi. As long as there's somebody walking around with a gun 50% of the time (wow, interesting!), the ratings will be good. Sci Fi always gets cancelled, but it remains my favorite genre. Firefly where are you?
So what are some other nice Sci-fi ish tv-shows?

I guess its how you see it. I kept up with the show on tv.com and when it was announced that the writers scrambled to make it a 1 season deal when it didnt get extended I felt that the ending with the cast in the church tower was a "end of the world" kinda deal. Sure its open/cliffhanger, but you know theyre fucked

I just think that Invasion was superior to Surface on every level, and one of the best sci-fi shows ever created. The cancellation of Invasion and Angel were the most aggravating moments in TV history, as far as I'm concerned. Invasions untimely end still angers me.

Yea, that ending was the ultimate cliffhanger. As I recall it, the whole show was a build up, and that I really loved about it. I love the fact that you dont know wtf is going on and what is lurking out there.

Im a sucker for end of the world stuff and in movies like that I enjoy the build up the most. Like fx. the start of Dawn of the Dead 2004 :P
