It did to a degree, I always enjoyed the banter - but I ended up having both consoles at a certain point during the 16bit era, and having access to both throughout the 8bit (I had a mate who always had Nintendo stuff, until I got a Super Nintendo.)

The PSX, Saturn debate was more prominent for me, as after singing the praises of Sony, I learned the error of my ways and defected to the Saturn (but only at the end of it's life when I realised what I'd been missing.)

This is the first console generation where I don't have at least 3 of the current consoles. It never really affected me.
