I'm torn. Do I wait to see if Sega grows some balls and releases this in the US and support the localization of shooters, or do I go ahead and pre-order it now and play it when it first comes out?
...
Okay... Screw it.
I'm going to pre-order it and if Sega does release it stateside I'll go ahead and take the double dip. It's freakin' Thunderforce.

Anyone with a bit of time and japanese language skills wish to help the forum with a reliable translation of all those two pages of Famitsu TF6 text in that scan? Fans need those details.
Fun fact:
Last release of a new Thunderforce chapter, and founding date of Shmups.com, are less than 2 months from each other (both in 1997, 07/11 and 05/26 respectively!) Basically we've been waiting the entire lifespan of this site for this sequel.

Cool. This is actually legible.
So the first three levels, at any rate, are amalgams of stages and bosses from parts III, IV and V.
I can't tell what the slot one weapon resembles, but the others are certainly a really wide Rear Shot, Wave from TF3, Free Range from TF5 and Hunter (although the bullets are flame orange now, instead of blue).
Also, the review says that there are 6 stages... making this the shortest TF yet.
They keep mentioning a new system in the review... I do see a strange power meter in the lower-left of the screen.
EDIT... slot one forward shot looks like a stream-lined Sever... very slim blue lasers.

It's about time that a new Thunderforce game came out...glad to have a JPN PS2 to play it on. ^_~
It seems to be a given that this Thunderforce VI game will be localized due to Thunderforce III through V were released in the USA. The real question is which American game distributor will snag the exclusive rights to do so.
A Thunderforce VI Limited Edition package (with some extra Thunderforce goodies) would be cool for the JPN release btw. ^_~

So, since Sega looks like they reached out for the licensing to do this, it also means that they are putting together a Sega Ages release of Thunderforce II - V (including the arcade game) for a release on the PS2 as well, right? Along with kewl little bonus features and everything? I mean, I know that the Sega Ages releases were previously done only for games either developed or published by Sega, but this would be the best time to buck the trend, right?

As has been noted here before, Segaga has some shmup bits. The end if I remember correctly.Thunder Force wrote:First details, allegedly translated from Famitsu by the forum that broke the news...
Thunderforce VI is developed by Sega. It is directed by Tez Okano, the writer and director of Segaga for DC and Astro Boy Omega Force for GBA. He says that his favorite entry in the Thunderforce series is IV. The game is 3D but still a horizontal shooter.
The Astro Boy game was developed by Treasure, right? Is Tez Okano an ex Treasure employee?
It's refreshing to see a shmup developed by one of the classic companies. For several reasons this is more interesting than a new Cave release (interesting as that is).
It is powerup of laser.
