RQ: Gunnail scoring
RQ: Gunnail scoring
Could someone explain? I think it has something to do with destroying enemies as you die/recover from dying, because sometimes it gives me x2 and x3 multipliers whenever I do.
I tried playing with no extra lives from the get-go and found some interesting stuff:
- Power-ups are also affected by the multiplier. So picking up a power-up icon with 3 empty containers will give you the effects of 3 power-ups
- Stage 1 boss score got a x30 multiplier
- Stage 2 boss score got a x50 multiplier I had 1.7 mil by the end of that stage
- 4 empty containers is worth a x5 multiplier, and 5 is worth x10
I still need to figure out the boss multiplier. If you suicide all extra lives at the beginning of the stage, you can get x30 and x50 multipliers from bosses (or even x100), but if you die only during the middle of the stage, that extra multiplier is lost.

The amount of shields you have when you reach the boss--not when you destroy it--determines the boss multiplier. Losing a shield when fighting the boss (and then destroying it) will give you the multiplier that you would get when fighting normal enemies (it's the boss multiplier divided by 10), at the amount of shields you have just dropped to.
For example, I have 1 shield when fighting the 2nd boss (provided I got the extend). If I were to simply beat it, I would get a 30x multiplier. If I were to lose a life and beat it, I would not get any 50x multiplier, but just get a 5x instead.
Is this correct?

An interesting feature:
If you take your last hit at the moment a boss loses its own last HP, or your ship is in the process of exploding (I'm not exactly sure of the window of opportunity for this), your ship will "stabilize" even though the special powerup is released. There doesn't seem to be any scoring advantage to this, though, since you'll lose the few points from stage bonuses (which should nevertheless still be more than those from the powerup and multiplier).
