Gory Movies

Post by ARCADIA »

I gotta check this out, it's a French movie but called "Inside" for US (DVD release only?) I fonud Japanese version first actually, called Yashiki Onna. You have seen it? but please don't spoil the movie.

Instead, name some gory movies you've seen: Horror & Non-Horror

Thanx

Alien vs. Predator Requiem tried to compensate for its predecessor's PG-13 rating by pouring on the buckets of gore. It was decent, but strangely enough not as good as the first movie, which I really enjoyed.

Dead Alive/ Brain Dead

Bad Taste

Mordum

Evil Dead(s)

Ichi the Killer

Zombie

Cannibal something or other (type in cannibal dvd on amazon and have a field day).

I prefer my gore to have a bit of humor- Mordum wasn't much 'fun' to watch- even Ichi was borderline.

i believe you mean cannibal holocaust....awesome film....the director was up on murder charges cuz they thought he was really killing people

and im guessing you mean august underground mordum....awesome film!!! much less believable than the first original tho.....

the machine girl is over the top gory too...its a new japanese film...i enjoyed it

pretty much any 70-80s lucio fulci stuff(city of the living dead, zombie, the new york ripper, etc.) is super gory....and very realistic....fulci is by far one of my favorite directors

a lot of takashi miikes more recent work has been ultra gory(most of his older films were yakuza films)

and of course you cant forget the guinea pig series.....the second one even made me kinda cringe....and i usually laugh my way through gore!!

audition had a very gory conclusion......even more so because the rest of the film had no gore......a must see....one of miike's best films IMO

ichi the killer is also a must see

i could keep listing movies forever, but i will stop now.....im out of breath.....lolz

Battle Royale is a classic to be sure, but aside from the hilltop scene and the kitchen scene, nothing about that movie was particularly gory IMO.

Almost forgot some...The Re-Animator and From Beyond, Day of the Dead, The Fly was pretty nasty, too.

I could say the same for Re-Animator :D, good movie but it didn't seem particularly gory (though the headless guy was awesome)

Lucio Fulci's:
The Beyond
Zombi 2
City of the Living Dead

George Romero:
Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead

Dario Argento:
Suspiria
Inferno
The Mother of Tears (basically, the Three Mothers trilogy)

Guinea Pig's films:
Pretty much any of them, but the goriest (I think) would be:
Mermaid in a Manhole
Flower of Flesh and Blood
He Never Dies

Then there's:
Cannibal Holocaust
Cannibal Ferox
Story of Ricky-O
Men Behind the SUn
Zombie Holocaust
Re-Animator
Dead Alive
RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!!!!!!

What about that whole surgical saw thing going through the chest scene? That was nasty.

Some memorable essentials that haven't been mentioned yet. Beware, not necessarily good movies but gory:

Kichiku Dai Enkai (half of the theater audience couldn't take this and left in the middle!)
The Seventh Curse (Indiana Jones goes splatter.. by the director of Story of Ricky!)
Haute Tension
Hostel 1 & 2
Frontière(s)
Sheitan
Organ
Muzan-E (cheap fake snuff from the director of the infamous Red Room -films)
Suicide Circle
Ebola Syndrome
Boxer's Omen (this is just so totally amazing, best HK horror ever)
Evil Dead Trap 1-2
Art of the Devil 1-2 (new, ultraviolent thai horror)
Meatball Machine (if you like Machine Girl, check this out)
Bloody Fragments On a White Wall (the "unofficial" Guinea Pig)
Murder. Set. Pieces. (even though the famous chainsaw scene is disappointing)
indonesian 80'es stuff like The Warrior trilogy, Special Silencers etc. is always bloody!
...

Inside (À l'intérieur) is masterful for the first hour or so, then something unfortunate happens. Anyway, a great movie. The french seem to have this competition among themselves "who can make the goriest movie?", and hell, why not, as long as they are as good as Inside, Calvaire, Sheitan, Haute Tension etc. But yesterday I saw Frontière(s), which was just a cheap copy of all the aforementioned flicks and didn't do anything original. But it sure had some great gore.

I think Brain Dead/Dead Alive still holds the record of most blood used in a movie. I believe they used 3000 gallons of fake blood

Yeah, Inside (A l'interieur) is pretty much the holy grail of gore...the unrated version that is.
If you're interested in this new french "nouvelle vague" in hardcore horror I also recommend Frontier(s) and especially Pascal Laugier's Martyrs.
Haven't seen Martyrs myself yet but I already love the man - 100% horror fan and brutally honest.

Los of good movies here. One very obvious gore fest is missing however:

John Carpenter's The Thing.

Argento's films are some of the best but the gore is usually limited to a few scenes. Profondo Rosso (Deep Red) anyone?

Fulchi's films are gory but rubbish.

How about Cannibal Ferox? I can't remember who directed that.

If you want some choice horror check out some early 70's Italian flicks. Not so gory but really well done. This site lists a few of them:

Rob Bottin was only 21 when he was working on John Carpenter's The Thing remake. To this very day, there has never been a horror film that has eclipsed the techincal and imaginative special effects showcased in the 1982 film before or since then. You'd think that with today's big-budget gory/horror EFX, that it could be outdone.

It could be done, but some new stuff would have to be whipped and done with real-time puppetry EFX and not resort to CGI EFX used nowdays.

Ever notice how when the alien creature's head splits open in The Thing remake, it predates the famous manga series, Parasyte, some years beforehand. A Japanese special EFX creator was on staff during the production of this classic sci-fi/horror film. ^_~
