Happy July 8th!

Post by SAM »

US Commodor Matthew Perry came to Tokyo Bay with the "Black Ships" on July 8th, 1853, and force Japan open to the world.

This event indirectly lead to the start of Japanese modernlization program and the returning the power from the Sougun to the "King"?

A very important day in Japanese history.

Why? These threads are pretty interesting. Without Japan's enforced Westernisation, would we have seen any Cave games? Or even played a NES? Prob not, to be honest.

Interesting and 'retarded' are not mutually exclusive.

How about instead of having someone start a thread nearly every day in some horrible attempt to be 'clever' or an even more horrible attempt to 'point out there's something other than America' someone who is actually interested in this stuff create a 'interesting dates' thread and just contain it there?

I think if anything needs to be hammered home time and time again, it's that there's something other than America.

Man, the Dutch were there way before that ;)
Without interfering in Japanese politics on a grand scale.
If I'm correct this American encounter mainly led to the switching of the Japanese army to guns, or better known as long distance weapons, which the Americans had a chance of admiring from up close when the Japanese visited Pearl Harbor on a sunny day later in history
All errors are intentional but mistakes could have been made.

I'm not sure we'd even have heard of them if Japan was as fiercely closed off as it once was.

Actually, I think 2. As I recall, the "International" games were not released in the States. Those two that slip by are DonPachi and Power Instinct 2.

I agree with zakk. One thread to rule them all, or something.

Agreed, but not via spam threads.
