Egret 2: A journey in pictures
My MAME cab with everything in it is 400 lbs. I need to get my an egret2 and gut it and stick my mame pc in it (kidding).
But I do wish it weighed 200 lbs.
Nice cab you have there. And damn nice scenery as one of the other members posted. I can't imagine driving around a corner and seeing a damned castle!

SiKrAiKeN: While I don't think everyone here -is- a Ninja Turtle, I DO believe everyone here has the potential to be a Ninja Turtle. No doubt.
Lol, yeah there's still some of that really old England stuff if you go driving into the countryside.landshark wrote: Nice cab you have there. And damn nice scenery as one of the other members posted. I can't imagine driving around a corner and seeing a damned castle!
In answer to all the questions (best I can):
Jpj is right, E2's are dual sync 15/24. However the monitor is a whopping 29", which means standard rez games have serious scanlines, but are crisp as hell. As someone pointed out on KC to me, you can just about count the pixels in a hitbox!
The machine itself is really heavy, and really big. Bigger than an Astro, bigger than most (bar an Egret 29 probably.) A lot of this size is down to the Control Panel. I didn't think we'd have trouble getting it in, but in the end had to remove the entire control panel to make things a bit easier. Thankfully, it all comes apart quite easily apparently. With a bit of know-how and preparation, you could probably get it up a tight stairwell piece by piece. This is pretty rare with old cabs - even sega astro city's don't dismantle quite as much.
Pro's of E2's are of course the rotate mech. The E3 and just about any other cab out there I know of, don't have one.
Rotating is easy, takes about 5 minutes and can be done by one person. Very convenient for the private cab at home.
Even though there are two speakers, E2's are mono as standard, but have a stereo switch, which means popping down to the local electronic shop and getting similar sized speakers to sit in the holders and wiring it up for stereo is an option. Probably not too tough either.
E2's have generic Control Panel plates, which mean it's easy to swap it out for an Astro, E3, Blast City - whatever you want. And it's very easy access (just pop the lid).
One of the worst things about E2's is Taito no longer make replacement parts! That means if you break the light cover (happens regularly) rip up your sideart etc, it's not going to be easy to get originals. Might have to stick to repros.
Hope this helps!

For Skykid,
You still can get replacement parts for the Egret II, just ask fellow shmupper, oxtsu. They are mucho expensive indeed and well worth the additional cost. ^_~
Did that cool Taito ashtray come with the Egret II cab purchase or did you get it seperately?
If you do have any stereo arcade PCBs, they will sound quite nice when hooked up through the Egret II's stereo harness adapter.
I notice that your Egret II control panel only has three buttons per player. Why not have six of them and properly be able to play them fighting game PCBs?
And did you get an Egret II instruction manual or original paperworks with it? Since it's in Japanese, it still is easy to figure out what the diagrams are pertaining to. A Sega Astro cabinet instruction manual is nice to have since there's an all-English language version that goes into greater detail about the 29" Nanao monitor itself and all the necessary adjustment trims and knobs to make the monitor looking at it's best -- this would apply to the Egret II's monitor as well.
Glad that you finally got one and post some personal High Scores of your arcade shmup PCB titles on the high score section of Shmups.org.

So rare, the coveted Taito ashtray has never been on sale. The only way to obtain one is to half-inch the little bastard from a Taito world in Japan. Thankfully I have an inside man.Did that cool Taito ashtray come with the Egret II cab purchase or did you get it seperately?

I dunno which PCB's are stereo actually? I'm assuming all the CPS2 stuff is? E2's Stereo harness adaptor - where do I get one, how does it work, how much!

No worries man, I'm already sorted on this. Mulletgeezer kindly picked up a whole set of pink and green buttons and sticks for me in Japan, I'll be seeing him at the shmup meet in london on the 19th.I notice that your Egret II control panel only has three buttons per player. Nope but I have copy I downloaded online. And did you get an Egret II instruction manual or original paperworks with it? Since it's in Japanese, it still is easy to figure out what the diagrams are pertaining to.
Had a fiddle with the knobs - found all the RGB adjustments, brightness pots etc, and of course the Hori and Vert adjustment buttons. Should add my monitor is mint, we're talking ZERO burn!A Sega Astro cabinet instruction manual is nice to have since there's an all-English language version that goes into greater detail about the 29" Nanao monitor itself and all the necessary adjustment trims and knobs to make the monitor looking at it's best -- this would apply to the Egret II's monitor as well.
Thanks, I got this on Mushihimesama this morning before work. It's a personal best, but I don't know if it's any good:Glad that you finally got one and post some personal High Scores of your arcade shmup PCB titles on the high score section of Shmups.org.

No, I'm not going to comment on anything that *might* be construed as misogynist here. I'm just going to say that getting to stage 5 is better than I've done. (I think: I haven't actually played in several years.) Nice job, Skykid.jpj wrote:your girlfriend's score?Skykid wrote:Original mode - Stage 5, no continues- 7821783

I only played it about four times (on the Egret 2), I thought I did pretty well considering. Thanks for the vote of confidence Prof. G!
I need to figure out the scoring system in Mushi, I'll go and do some reading BUT: I hate learning to score, cos it messes up my goal of the 1cc and I start to play funny and mess it all up.

Maybe I should finish it first then learn to score.
