I wonder what is the main reason for that. Could be many things...
That being said happy 4th of July guys.

Well, to be bustin' out the technicalities and college learnings, a "State" actually means a country or basically an organized government. So you can say Canada is a State, France is a State, etc.
For the sake of simplicity, back in the day when England lost control of the US Colonies and territories, each colony essentially became their own country and had their own laws, forms of currency, different border relations, what have you. Then when Washington and Jefferson and all them guys got together and decided to bust out the federal government and join everybody as one, all the countries i.e. states became united, hence the name, United States.
So in modern times, for the sake of classification and other reasons, countries were the solid colors with boundaries placed on an atlas, while states may or may not have the boundries drawn, but they still function as independent governments on some level. I think Austrailia does the same thing, and the EU probably could classify sorta like this now, but I'm sure that decision was made so recently, nobody really treats those "states" like a united "country."
But I don't live over there, so they would know better than I...
Anyway, that's why putting "Michigan" in your Location is like writing your country without writing USA. *shrug* Point-of-view I guess...
Also, way to add "Canada" to Québec. But I don't know enough about providences.
