Eh, wife would kill me if I try that before we get a new TV, and I think it's sloped enough that I'd have to cobble something together to support it at a comfortable angle. It's a junk wal-mart model from Phillips and I doubt the internal components are mounted well.
I liked that custom stick because it was very pretty. I've taken a liking to the Mushi-chick (Reco?) after recently seeing the soundtrack figurine. I don't want to muck about in my HRAP while it's my only stick, but I have been looking at the parts on lizardlick a lot. Maybe I will. Figure it's a cheap way to experience the difference.
you're playing it too safe! be attitude for gains!
flip that tv on its side with a book underneath, and throw a seimitsu stick in the HRAP and get shootin!
Do it - it works fine for me.
I recommend an old film guide. You know - one of those massive think books full of reviews. If you don't own an old one, an out of date one is next to free.
I use the wife's 1994 Halliwells film guide, and even though she plays shmups in tate she's none the wiser! Are you darling? To be honest she wouldn't give a shit. Just do the book thing. It's perfectly safe.
This is my setup, what I call Arcade Desktop. I didn't want a cabinet because I wanted to rotate my tv easily, and even place it in a non-inclined position for watching divx and dvds. In this webpage there's further information.
I'm attaching here some pics of tate mode, with and without the marquee. I also include a close shot so that you can see the quality of the ArcadeVGA display (real vertical scanlines, hehe).
My Sony PGM-2950, hooked up to a Dreamcast via VGA. It actually sits atop another PGM-2950 that has problems (no red color on screen, something is busted). The whole thing fits quite nicely into an old closet (with the doors removed) inside my computer room.
Amazing Frederic! That definately counts - It's not a cab, and a broken laptop's about as 'ghetto tate' as you can get.
Actually, we had a Supergun and a Muchi Muchi Pork board running from a bin at the recent London Shooter Meet, all plugged into a broken telly the size of a postage stamp balanced on a pool cue on a table! That's real ghetto tate!
Thanks! Well the refresh rate is crap, the Powerbook is only 867mHz so a lot of games are unplayable. I haven't really spent any time trying to optimize it but I know it will probably turn out ok with the right Mame and the right OS version.
It was really easy to fold the Powerbook the wrong way around and it turned into a very compact setup! I've since tried a few different routes, right now it's built into an Ikea table... which makes it a cab I suppose
EDIT: OK - I did it myself and discovered MAC MAME, so ignore the below!
Got to ask Frederic, though I hate to take things a little off topic - where do you recommend for getting some decent MAME emulators for the Mac? I want to play Progear on my MacBook, and maybe even make a set-up like yours with it...
I don't actually have a picture, but I have an old Dell monitor that I use every now and then. I don't usually use tate because the MAME screen is already big enough for me, but I might try it later.
