Sorry for the trouble today, it seems someone *really* wanted to refresh the front page in a tight loop, taking up all the apache processes. I have blocked them and sent the user I believe is involved, a message about this.

So that's why I couldn't access the forums.
And yeah, what would be the point of doing that?

BF: There are mods to throttle dipshits like this. Look around. Apache is highly configurable. I know you're busy... but hey, we all are.

Yeah, not sure mod_throttle would have helped this time. As soon as a connection was closed another was established, and then they'd sit in CLOSE_WAIT state until timeout. For all I know the attempts are still rolling in, I did a 'quick fix' and null routed their IP.

I really shouldn't have felt this way (let alone admit this), but something about this post sent me into temporary hysterics

Anyway, sorry to hear about the harebrained (or was it FEATHERBRAINED? Macaw just made his return, COINCIDENCE?!) attempt to DOS the server.

At least it shouldn't have taken up a whole lot of bandwidth, rite?
