Food sizes shrinking!

Post by Pixel_Outlaw »

It seems that every time I turn around the food sizes are shrinking. All kinds of companies are shrinking down their products.

Latest findings
Lemonheads (GIANT box with puny wrapper inside)
TV Dinners Smaller portions
Various candy bars smaller and more money.

Post your findings and be on alert!
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Edy's Ice Cream. I dare not get my brother-in-law started on this.

Oddly enough, try ordering a drink at Wendy's. Apparently 32oz. is now "Medium". "Large" is extra large. "Extra Large" is now fucking ginormous.

The profit margin on carbonated drinks at fast food places is huge, since it's mostly tap water. They want to sell as much of that stuff as possible.

Corn and potatos prices in particular are up this year, hence shrinking weights and/or increased prices. Smaller snack makers who buy at market price may or may not be getting screwed.

Before the price goes up the size comes down.

Then the price goes up.

Welcome to a world of fat people. No offense to our overweight members, but economics set aside, weening people off of gorging is the only good thing to happen b/c of the shitty prices of resources. I say this with only intentions of good health in mind... not one of good physique.

For those of you working in the grocery business, this thread is nothing new...the food companies are slimming/trimming down their products and slowly jacking up the prices.

For instance, take a single bottle of Starbucks' Frappucino drink 11 oz. size that is distrubuted by PepsiCo:

Price was listed at $1.39 a few years back...and every few months or so, the price would go up 10 cents. Now the current price for an 11 oz. bottle of Frappucino is at $2.39. And just for a mere 10 cents more, you could buy a 13.7 oz. bottle size (the biggest sized bottle currently available) of Frappucino drink priced at $2.49.

The 13.7 oz. sized bottle of Frappucino drink was priced at $2.09 when it first came out on the market. So basically, one is paying for the marketing, brand name image, distribution, etc. -- it's the cost of doing business to stay in business and still earn a profit these days. The consumer may not think about all those factors/variables that determine the overall final price of said grocery item but they exist. ^_~

In the American grocery business, it has been said that for every dollar spent, less than one cent is earned back as profit. Hard to believe but it is true -- profit margins are pretty slim in the grocery business these days, especially with rising fuel costs which in turns has a domino effect on everything else resulting in higher prices.

In the business world, this advice is touted: It takes money to make money.

That's always been a weird paradox of sorts...at the same time you hear about food companies shrinking down the sizes of their stuff (while keeping prices the same), you hear about how big restaurant portions have gotten, in much the same manner.

On the one hand I like getting at least decent return for what I spend, but as others have mentioned most of us don't need to be eating more in the first place. As such, I wish they'd shrink the portions of the food porn and super-size the stuff that's better for you, but that ain't happening.

As a big fan of SB Frapps I hate the price too.

so I make my own. It isnt exact but it works for me.

Using a small 4 cup Mr. Coffee maker I use 3 very rounded table spoons of strong coffee. Pour in 4 cups of water & brew.

I use a 20 oz mason jar & add 12 tea spoons of regular sugar & 3 teaspoons of Goodmans double strength Vanilla extract.

I pour brewed coffee into mason jar stir well & refrigerate.
(Put a metal spoon into the jar before adding coffee so the glass jar is less likely to crack.)

After the coffee has cooled I use four 12 oz plastic juice bottles to evenly split the coffee then add milk.

Experiment till you find your taste.

I put these in an ice chest & travel out of town each week. Very tasty!

Just thought Id share...

Bussinesses I know that are serving too small portions for the same price as others who are bigger/better serving are getting a boycot by me and everyone I tell about it.

Haute Cuisine is all nice and stuff but it won't fill my stomach.
Thank (the not existing) God for the local Kebab place serving plates only REAL diehards can consume wholely. (I can btw...).
