The sad part is, comic book storylines really haven't come a very long way since then, heh.

I read and love comics but i'd have to say that you're right.

The stories generally suck my balls.

Heh, a bit crude, but fairly accurate :) .

There are a few gems, however. A very small percentage, to be honest though.

Hmmm, I keep trying to like comics, but yeah, most of them are pretty bad. That said though, I could always read comics about guys fighting giant ants or whatever. It seems like there is the normal bad, then there is the pulp-fiction bad that I not only can tolerate but dearly love. Unfortunately most comics are rarely either--both now and back then. Man, if it wasn't for Moore, Tezuka, the Lone Wolf & Cub books and Hellboy, I don't know if I'd even be bothering...

Tod Holton: Super Green Beret

Yes, he scanned the ENTIRE COMIC, it's that good.

Jesus! I think that is the most offensive thing I've EVER seen!

And it's one of the most poorly written pieces of crap I've ever read. Extremely lame dialogue.

Ronin - by Frank Miller i believe - is one of the coolest comic stories ever.

Much respect for Ronin.

Moore, Tezuka and Mignola are all top notch.

But I also find quite a bit of enjoyment in comic books that are in that grey area between great quality and pure pulp nonsense (though that can be fun as well). I've been catching up on Warren Ellis's Transmetropolitan, which while not great art by any means, is a fun, misanthropic mix of Hunter S. and William Gibson on a bad day. And yeah, call me a geek, but I dig The Sandman. It's a guilty pleasure.

Oh, and speaking of misanthropy: Invader Zim fans not already acquainted with J.V.'s printed work are advised to peep Johnny, the Homicidal Maniac and Squee. Not really quality, but fun, IMO.

:?

That is a weird comment, particularly considering MadSteelDarkness mentioned where that quote comes from.

Sorry, Minzoku. I thought that your sig actually was a play on that silly comic when the monkeys are pounding the troops with coconuts. I must haven't been fully awake when I posted that, so please accept my apologies. Didn't know that MadSteel had already mentioned where it came from.

Well, I meant that it was a strange statement, made even stranger by MSD's incidental mention of Zim :)

Well i can tell you that Uncanny X-Men #234 has the best cover ever. It was drawn by Marc Silvestri and has Woverine crouching down with his claws popped out and he is screaming at the sky. He's being possessed by a Brood in the image so his face is extended with razor teeth and the whole thing is colored with cool greens and purples. Its the most awesomest :) cover ever!
