in the doujin shmup Psyche metal : the bleeding you play as as a rotting eye, so I guess that could count.

also, you can have a zombie face camo in metal gear solid 3 (and it looks pretty cool). doesn't really count though.

and In Mutant League Football for the Sega genesis you can play as zombies(if i remember correctly).

In Wario Land 4 for GBA Wario turns into a zombie when touched by certain enemies.

Not sure if it counts, but in a handful of the Final Fantasy games there's the "zombie" status ailment...most of the time it just doesn't let your character be healed, but in earlier renditions it's nastier, knocking your HP to zero and making you attack your own party. Of course, you have no control over zombified characters, so it's debatable whether you're really "playing as" them.

i thinking you're mixing the zombie condition together with confusion.
Zombie just makes you weak against Healing/Fire/Holy and invincible gainst the Death and Doom/death sentence spell.
You still are able to control your charas!

Zombies Ate My Neighbours - SNES classic, at least in the PAL territories. There's been many bad rip-offs...

Nope. You can be a pumped-up Jekyll & Hyde style monster for a bit with a powerup though.

In FF6 you aren't - if your party is zombied, it's game over. Maybe one or two of the others too, but definitely that one.

Yes, drink a ?-mark potion and turn into a green skinned zombie you cant control for x amount of seconds.

Love this game and still fire up my snes on occasions to give it a whirl

Can't you become a zombie in Oblivion and keep playing like that?

Oh and in many Final Fantasies you can be a zombie and still fight (but with 0 HPs

The Elder Scrolls game? I think the answer is OMG NO.

There are liches (lichen heh) in the game and even descriptions for becoming one, but the player can't follow them.

The Last Blade II (Mukuro). Would Guilty Gear XX's Zato-1 count? I guess you don't play as him, but he is supposedly a puppet corpse and all.
