Any cool action/adventure games i'm missing on 16-bit?
Well, I had a thread about MAME action games, and now i'm a bit more interested in the console versions.
I'm looking for anything that's kinda not that well known, since i'm sure i've played every big game there is on SNES and Genesis.
Action or adventure(or run n' gun) would be cool.
I have played some lesser known ones like that Star game that sonic team made, Pulseman, Hagane, Demon's Quest, Treasure's games, Rocket Knight/Sparkster, and some others.
Any other gems out there?

Adventures on a 16-bit? Well, there were a few on the SegaCD -- Monkey Island, Snatcher, Willy Beamish, Rise of the Dragon...evil_ash_xero wrote:Action or adventure (or run n' gun) would be cool.

Yeah, well, I made that thread a few days ago, and just thought up this one today, after being a bit let down by the MAME games.Ed Oscuro wrote:stick to one instead of the "please list the hundreds of worthwhile games for all systems' spam plzevil_ash_xero wrote:Well, I had a thread about MAME action games,

Sorry if it seemed a bit SPAM-ish.

I dunno, if you don't like our MAME picks, I dunno why you'd like our console picks, at least not in my case. Although some people here surprise me with their console gaming tastes, i.e. Ceph's pick for game of the week starting today (speaking of OMG SPAM).

Well, you can't expect people who've never played Zelda or Mega Man to have good taste.
Anyway, the SNES has so many great games. You might not have heard of these, but I've played them all more times than I can count.
Action:
ActRaiser 2
Assault Suits Valken (Cybernator in the US, but it had some story cut out)
Cannon Fodder (play it with the mouse)
Daffy Duck: The Marvin Missions
The Firemen
Mega Man (X, X2, X3, and 7 are pretty popular, but you might not have tried the Japan-only Mega Man & Bass / Rockman & Forte. The GBA port was localized, but it wasn't quite as good.)
Metal Warriors (average single-player, but very fun versus)
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Adventure:
Big Sky Trooper
Front Mission: Gun Hazard
Illusion of Gaia
Out of this World
Phantom 2040
Terranigma
You should definitely try either of Enix's greats (Gaia / Terranigma).
Run 'n gun:
Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures
Jurassic Park II: The Chaos Continues (amazingly underrated, especially with 2 players)
Mutant Chronicles: Doomtroopers
Super Star Wars trilogy (though the first is a little lacking)
Super Turrican 2
It's a little harder to think of what you might not have played on the Genesis. Vectorman? But he's pretty well-known.

There's nothing wrong with this thread, and some of those 'spam' comments were directed at Ceph.evil_ash_xero wrote:I made that thread a few days ago, and just thought up this one today, after being a bit let down by the MAME games.

Demon's Crest is great. It's a different style of platformer with a darker storyline and artwork, setting it apart from most other Action/Adventure games for the system. One of the better SNES soundtracks I've heard, too.
I can't think of anything other than what has already been mentioned here in the thread.

The Amiga version's got the cool intro song, but load times are frequent throughout the game. The SNES version cuts them down considerably, and since it plays the same I'd recommend it over the original.Shatterhand wrote:If you're going to play Cannon Fodder, stick with the Amiga version please.

The loading times were very bearable IMO, and you could keep hearing the cool song that plays while the game is loading... and it's not just the intro song, I think soundwise the game is much superior overall on the Amiga version.Mortificator wrote:The Amiga version's got the cool intro song, but load times are frequent throughout the game. But yeah, the SNES version isn't bad either, the gameplay is very intact, unlike with Sensible Soccer

Moonwalker is one of the finest games I ever played. Even with Michael Jackson and all, they managed to make a damn awesome game.Moonwalker, Mega Turrican,
And Mega Turrican, again, I'd advise you play Turrican 3 on Amiga instead... your ears will thank you

My ears must be writing me a death threat, then, since I like Mega Turrican better.
The reduced audio quality is a shame in this one; Cannon Fodder just had little between-mission ditties and no in-game music, while Turrican has an awesome Huelsbeck soundtrack. But the Genesis version of the game supports the 6-button pad so you have separate buttons for shooting, jumping, smartbombs, and the plasma whip. It's so much easier to control than on the Amiga, where you have to make do with one button.
And you know, I have to give Mega Turrican's soundtrack a thumbs-up for incorporating the classic Turrican anthem in the intro. It's just a little thing that makes Turrican feel right. If the theme hadn't started up during the final battle of Super Turrican 2 (and of the whole series) I would have needed to find Chris and kick him in the balls.

until you beat it. Which really has to be done pretty much in one sitting because the passwords they give you are just level passwords, but start you off with only the basic weapons (instead of all the stuff you've collected up to that point).Super Laydock wrote:How could I've forgotten about hat one?Mortificator wrote: Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Awesome game indeed.
I took a saturday to sit down and beat it all the way through and was so sick of the game by the time the end finally came that I swore it off forever and haven't so much as touched it since (except to take it out of my genesis and put it into its case, and then later to put the case into a box and mail it to someone else).
You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.

You can play the Amiga version using a 2 button controller (IIRC, even Turrican 1 used 2 buttons controllers). I never had any problem controlling the Amiga version, I think the controls were spot-on. I also never knew Mega Turrican used the 6 pad button, I only played it with the 3 buttons controller, so the setup wasn't much different from playing on Amiga with 2 buttons. (If I remeber correctly, it was basically exactly the same thing, except I would push up to jump instead of pressing a button... considering UP doesn't do anything on the Mega-Drive version, that 's hardly something to complain).Mortificator wrote:My ears must be writing me a death threat, then, since I like Mega Turrican better. The reduced audio quality is a shame in this one; Cannon Fodder just had little between-mission ditties and no in-game music, while Turrican has an awesome Huelsbeck soundtrack. Yeah, I don't recall Turrican 1 or 2 supporting this option though (at least not without TEH HAX; several WHDLoad patches allow for the use of an extra button in cases where the original game didn't support it - a lifesaver for Ruff 'n' Tumble).

We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.
