Today is a wonderful day... I -FINALLY- found Harmful Park!

Post by Cthulhu »

Sorry, I just need to gloat. After hearing the praises of Harmful Park sung here by so many people, I decided I needed to get the game. Screenshots only further whet my appetite. Yet I never could find a single copy of the game in Akihabara over the course of several trips there over several months...

But all that finally changed! Super Potato had a single copy of it sitting in a rather unassuming spot on the "valuable PSX" games shelf. I snagged it instantly. Oh glorious pastel enemies, you are mine to shoot... oh really-cool-looking-but-easy-to-bomb-to-death-bosses, you are mine to bomb...

Thanks for recommending this game everyone, it's been well worth the wait!

Nope. JPN exclusive.

Congrats, Cthulhu! Score Attack calls out your name.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

just curious, how much did it go for in Super Potato? That store is one of the best in Akihabara.

Heh, congrats, join the club of proud Harmful Park owners! :) I'm also curious to hear what you got for it, as the price of this game seems tough to pin down...when I got my copy for $70 some time ago some people said I got a good deal, while others claimed to have gotten theirs for around 40. Odd.

The only way I know of to get this game here in the middle of the US is by way of EBay. I got my absolutely mint copy from someone in the UK for $120. That's a lot of money for me, but it was well worth it. Set to a higher-difficulty level, the bullet patterns are a colorful chaos of fun. Possibly my favorite horzi.

I found my complete copy of Harmful Park in Trader 1 for the grand sum of.....3580 yen. That's $33!! I had a good haul in that one shop on that day, Harmful Park, Adventures of Little Ralph, Zanac X Zanac, Panzer Bandit and Judgement Silversword. Akihabara is THE bomb for game shopping (although I've yet to try Den Den Town)

If that's the Trader on corner of ClubSega that's where I found my copy to - for $35, spinecard, reg.-card and everything in supercondition!

What's Den Den Town btw.?

That's good deal you had there. The store by Club Sega is Trader 2, the better of the two stores. Trader 1 is up the main street past Messe Sanoh.

Den Den Town is Osaka's version of Akihabara, it's supposed to rival Aki for game shopping. Super Potato and Retro Game Revival are said to be the best stores. Would be nice to visit one day.

Here's a map of Akiba;
http://dynamic5.gamespy.com/~japangaming/akimap.php

You wil need Firefox. I'll try to fix this where it works in IE later today.

Trader 2 seems to be the most fair of the shops with rare games, even though they get a little crazy on some items. I've never seen Harmful Park in Akihabara, but I do almost zero Playstation shopping there. I got a sealed copy off of Yahoo Japan for about 6700 yen late last year for an ex-poster of these forums.

Den Den town is the electronics district of Osaka; it's the western-Japan version of Akihabara. As for rivaling Akiba... hrm. Den Den town is surprisingly good for being so much smaller than Akiba. There are several dedicated retro game stores too. The prices there are lower too... albeit not by as much as I'd (we'd  ) like. I think Akiba is better for rare stuff just because more people go there - it has the advantage of numbers and fame. Don't look down on Den Den though, it's an excellent place to shop too. Plus if you diss Osaka I'll get medival on you. 8)

Harmful Park cost me 6200 yen with no spine card. The disc is in great shape though. I would've paid more. Was that a good deal? I have no idea - this really is the first copy I've seen in Akiba over the course of nine months.

Trader 2 changed it's layout last month, and for the worse. They turned the retro games floor into a used DVD floor and crammed -all- the used games onto the first. Most of the rare games are gone, I have no idea what they did with them. GaijinPunch's map is really good. I've walked Akiba many, many times - I can say with certainty that his map will help.

Super Potato is awesome for selection but I can't say too much about their prices. Then again, you go to Akiba for the selection, not great deals.
