Are there any arcade shmup carts for Seta's Aleck64 mobo?
Taking a look at Seta's Aleck64 motherboard, I didn't realize that it is based on the Nintendo 64 architecture... ^_~
My question is this: Are there any shmup titles available for the Aleck64 mobo?
And is it possible to hook a N64 controller directly to the Aleck64 mobo as well and play games that way?
Thanks in advance for your informative answers as always...

But, this list might just be not complete, you never know. Regardless if there are shmups, I never even saw a bare cartridge for sale anywhere (maybe yahoojp?)
N64 controllers? Why should that be possible?
The neo hardware has it, but I don't even understand why that system has it! I guess SNK were just feature happy!
What game(s) do you have for it? Did you get the disney Tetris pcb? If so, how is it?

For D,
Thanks for the link on the Aleck 64 mobo... ^_~
There are four seperate controller inputs on the Aleck 64 mobo -- raises the question of could such a N64 controller work on it comes to mind...
I got the Aruze Donchan Puzzle Hanabi de Doon! cart with this Aleck 64 mobo. Haven't tried it out yet. Will report on how it plays... ^_~
I see that fellow shmupper hd has an Aleck 64 mobo with Visco's Vivid Dolls cart up for sale:
http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... c4e49a5b33
It would seem that the only arcade shmup title for the Aleck 64 mobo would be Hudson Soft's Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth cartridge...not much of a selection when it comes to arcade shmup titles for the Aleck 64 mobo. Just one shmup game for it is better than none, of course... ^_~

I submitted a bunch of stuff to system16.com over a year ago and they never updated it. Mostly screen shots and stuff. here and here.
As you probably know, there is only one shooter for that system, Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth. Its mediocre at best (playing on an N64 emulator). I had a really hard time finding the aleck64 cart of it, came close but lost out to a japanese gamestore that doesn't like dealing with Americans.
There was an unreleased shooter for the Aleck64 that looked good and was pretty much done. It even got a review in arcadia issue #1 called
Variant Schwanzer. Why it was never released is beyond me. That would be a true treasure to find the prototype cart for it.
In my opinion the best games for the system are by Aruze: Donchan Puzzle Hanabi de Doon! and Tower & Shaft. The later one being very simplistic "one button" type game but quite addictive. Both these games boot up fine with standard jamma controls.
Eleven Beat and Vivd Dolls (which I also have) require the analog control panel, as does Star Solder. I did experiment with hacking an N64 controller up to the special inputs but the analog protocol for Aleck64 is slightly different than the N64 console. It recognized the digital inputs of the N64 pad, and also recognize the analog, but as different type of analog, so it would not boot without the real analog arcade sticks being present. What I have not tried is hooking up the Aleck64 control panel to an N64 conole...only because I don't have the console.
I've been meaning to put the control panel + Vivid Dolls + Eleven Beat back up for sale but after I get all this wedding stuff over with. BTW: Vivid Dolls is pretty rare in itself, being the only adult stripping game license by Nintendo!

For Dave K.,
A big thanks on the 411 regarding this rare Aleck 64 mobo -- will have to see if SS:VE cart is attainable in the nearby future...
Ah, now that you mention that I would need to get an Aleck 64 analog/digital control panel just to play it with. This will be an expensive endevour indeed...wish me luck. For what arcade cabinet is this Aleck 64 control panel made for? ^_~
Would seem to be easier to pick up a used N64 console and a copy of N64 SS:VE cart instead of an Aleck 64 mobo, a SS:VE cart + Aleck 64 control panel for an arcade cabinet setup. Of course, having the real deal of SS:VE to play on an Aleck 64 mobo sounds pretty cool... ^_~
That Variant Schwanzer shmup title seems to be an interesting game...yeah, I wonder who owns this cool proto Aleck 64 shmup cart anyways?

Standard Astro City type panel. The one I have is band new and still in the original box. It uses special Aleck64 dual Analog/Digital sticks. The entire control panel (sticks and buttons) plug into those small connectors on the mobo. Only power and sounds is routed through the jamma harness.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:For what arcade cabinet is this Aleck 64 control panel made for?

Yeah this is exactly what I was thinking as well, and is why I tried to hack an N64 pad to the mobo. No luck. If you find the Aleck64 cart, you can buy my panel.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Would seem to be easier to get pick up a used N64 console and a copy of N64 SS:VE cart instead of an Aleck 64 mobo, a SS:VE cart + Aleck 64 control panel...

I do have a USA region N64 cart of SS:VE but no N64 console -- what an interesting catch-22 situation to be in... ^_~

And if the Aleck 64 control panel does work with an N64 console, the N64 console would still have to be modded for Jamma RGB output, right?Dave_K. wrote:Not so ninja edit on my post there...I ment if you find the Aleck64 cart of SS:VE. Would be interesting to see if the panel will work with N64 console, so then you could throw the console into a cab.

That's like one step above region modding your SNES.Dave_K. wrote:Correct. I've herd it's a bear to do, but possible.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:the N64 console would still have to be modded for Jamma RGB output, right?
