Dynamite Headdy JP on a US console

I have an american Genesis, but a JPN Dynamite Headdy coming in the mail. I currently use a game genie to play my JPN games. Not the best solution, I know, but so far it has worked pretty well. I'm aware that some games made after 1993 are region locked and all.

Question: Is Dynamite Headdy region locked? You wouldn't happen to have the game genie code for it to run? I've looked around, but to no avail so far. Help much appreciated.

If you don't mind modding your system, or even buying a spare system to mod since they cost under $20, the region mod is super easy to do. One SPDT switch (possibly even SPST will do) and 2 or 3 wires and you're set to switch between US and JP modes.

But... yah, looks like you'll find out soon enough :)

As long as you have the right code. Last I checked, there aren't many Game Genie sites with a good variety of region lock bypass codes. There probably is one for Dynamite Headdy, but too many sites focus only on "cheat" codes. A faq at gamefaqs has some codes, but, last I checked, Dynamite Headdy wasn't included. Dynamite Headdy JP is region locked, but oddly enough, the US version isn't (at least between US and JP, not sure about PAL/NTSC lock). The US Dynamite Headdy is one of those that has only one version on the cart, though.

Was asking in advance in case someone knew about the region locking of that particular game, since I don't seem to find if it's region locked / a code for it. Other MD Treasure games are locked, and because this one is from 1994 it should be no exception.

Thanks for the input, as usual. I'll keep looking for one...

Why not get an Action Replay instead? At least the PAR2 bypasses region protections.

like someone said above, install the region change hack switch...its ridiculously easy to do. there are how to's if u google for it.

The difficulty of the installation depends on the version of the Genesis. I heard it's harder for Genesis 2 compared to Genesis 1. The mod requires soldering and cutting a trace (Genesis 1). I wouldn't call it ridiculously easy either. It's a simple mod, but with some very delicate steps that could mess up everything if done wrong. I'm glad I worked with my dad on the Genesis one mod, since he knows more about soldering and working with electronics than I do.

I did the mod on a Genesis 2, and if I recall, there was nothing delicate about it. A little dot in a gigantic patch of copper trace has to be separated from its surroundings and reconnected with a switch in the middle. You can take a knife and make your solder points a whole square inch big if you wanted to.

I would even say it's a great one to do as a beginner's first mod. But if the Game Genie doesn't work and Kingring isn't up to the task, a handy friend could do it in 10 minutes.

edit: Actually, I just remembered coming across this. Don't know if the region compatibility is just the cartridge slot, or if it is electronically compatible.

I heard the Genesis 2 mod requires lifting a leg from a chip and the board seems to be a bit smaller as well. For the Genesis 1, the steps are simple, and the trace isn't too small, but it's small enough where you have to make sure the trace is cut properly. It probably is easy by electronics standards, but for someone like me with no experience, the part about cutting a trace and having to use a microscope to make sure it's cut is not something I would want to do without knowing what I was doing.

I used the guide at http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/index.htm for Genesis 1 and they have the guide that says to lift the pin for Genesis/MD2.
