Toaplan Music

Post by gamingjustin »

It's safe to say I really enjoy Toaplan games and I'd like to have a Toaplan collection of some sort. Unfortunately, despite having all the right hardware, I'll never be able to afford the PCBs...

But I sure do dig the music in these games, so can you help me find some music to buy; check over this list? :)

I found these soundtracks listed on this site: http://vgmdb.net/

Ultimate Tiger -G.S.M. Taito 2-
TATSUJIN ~TOA PLAN GAME MUSIC SCENE ONE~
Zero Wing
Shark! Shark! Shark!
Out Zone / Snow Bros.
Vimana / Teki-Paki
Tatsujin-Oh
FIXEIGHT
Dogyuun!!
V Five
BATSUGUN

So is this all the Toaplan CDs available? Thanks in advance!

that is almost everything, except there is also the arrange version of Slap Fight (Megadrive) by Yuzo Koshiro:

shame there isn't an OST for that game...

Ah cool. Thanks for the tip. Yeah I'll see if I can track down some other stuff too, like the Megadrive/PCE versions of Toaplan music.

Oh, that reminds me.

Horror Story (Hora Story! :D) on PC-Engine CD-ROM^2 has a pretty okay remixed soundtrack, although as far as things go I think it's a bit weak compared to other soundtracks. Like there's kinda stereotypical Western and Chinese themed tracks. Interesting little game, I'd say it's underrated. Bouncing on enemies = more points than shooting them. :O

Daisenpuu Special (or whatever it's called) also on CD-ROM^2 has a pretty outstandingly lousy soundtrack, I thought.

I think both these games were remixed by that A/V group or company (the same folks who did the HuCard translation of Ghouls 'n Ghosts / Daimakaimura for SuperGrafx), so they aren't in-house Toaplan stuff and the quality goes back and forth.

I can rip Horror Story's music; I know I have in the past. I had the Daisenpuu ISO a while back but I don't remember if I kept it; the music killed it for me (that was already not my favorite soundtrack).

There are also some ports of Toaplan games on the FM Towns!

You should ask Bloodreign about them because he's played them more than I (even though I'm the one with a Marty >_>;). He says that Kyuukyoku Tiger/Twin Cobra in particular has a good soundtrack, I think, and so should Fire Shark (Same! Same! Same!). I burned Flying Shark (Hishou Zame) and thought the remix music was pretty crap there.

Actually I can't get UNZ the Marty emulator to run games with sound. There was a Youtube video of Twin Cobra Marty on, but the account is long closed so I can't link to it these days, but the KT remixed soundtrack seemed outstanding, but again the video's long gone. :(

Neat, yeah I'll try to track down the Marty/Towns stuff too. I heard Sky Shark on the Towns once... pretty crappy if I remember correctly; might've been some piano in there?

As you may have already guessed I've resorted to just downloading the soundtracks instead of buying them  I actually managed to scrounge all of the "official" ones up (those 11 I listed), but it seems there's still more to find. Thanks everyone.

Not sure if you're aware, but the Saturn port features DA for the OST. It also includes an AST... which the music CD doesn't appear to include.

I have recorded music directly from the following toaplan PCB's; Teki-Paki, Hellfire, Fixeight, Vimana, Batsugun and V-V.
They are true "OSV" (original sound version) with no added reverb or such, let me know if you want them :)
