Worst old games by the biggest developers??
Maybe it should be clarified which Thunder Cross (US or JP) we're discussing. I've read of it, Trigon / Lightning Fighters and Akumajo Dracula / Haunted Castle's US versions being worse one way or another.
As for Thunder Cross JP, the only real knocks I could give it are two sleepy opening stages, and not becoming as intense as it could've. But Gradius II has a pretty mild second stage too*, and it's still an involving game despite not kicking you in the ass repeatedly.
There's also a non-Konami shooter called Thunder Cross, iirc.
*edited for blasphemy, I completely forgot Gradius II's first stage is fucking marvelous.

Ah yes, Sega worked in conjunction with Rick Dyer Inc. (RDI) to make the 1991 laserdisc game that is known as Time Traveler. It was priced at 75 cents per credit -- making it expensive to play back in those days. The production that went in to making the FMV clips used in TT used the "green-screen" process (or better known as the blue-screen process) and further enhancements via CGI were added later...was very expensive to film, add CGI special EFX, edit in post production, and remaster it to laserdisc format. And not to mention building the special hologram projection system from the ground up. I can only recall of just one PCB upgrade kit for the Time Traveler cab called Holosiem released back in 1992 which was a mediocre 2-D fighter at best but presented with said holographic projection system...Vexorg wrote:Actually, if I had to pick a Data East game, I might go with Fighter's History, if only for the sheer ripoff factor of the whole thing.
And Mario is Missing wasn't actually produced by Nintendo, it was made by Software Toolworks.
And if we're adding to the list, how about SNK? The 1985-1995 era covers a good chunk of the early NeoGeo stuff (Magician Lord comes to mind for that.) Atari could go on the list as well, since they put out some pretty atrocious stuff during this period (I might go with Pit Fighter as a suggestion.)
Also for Sega, what about Time Traveler? Excessively gimmicky hardware searching for some semblance of a game.
And let's not forget Atari Games arcade brawler, Guardians in the Hood -- another poor Pit Fighter knock-off...
PC Engine Fan X! ^_~
Ok now that we have a good selection of games, what is the developer that put out the most or the worst games?
Also I don't think it's fair to count the virtual boy games or the super scope games as nintendo's worst games, because the real problem of these games was the hardware.
Konami = Martial Champion, Galactic Warriors
Capcom = 1943, Street Fighter
Taito = Rastan Saga 2
Nintendo = Urban Champion
Sega = Osomatsu-kun, Alex Kidd
Namco = Wonder Momo, Samurai Ghost
I would say that Nintendo and suprisingly Taito are the ones with the best "worst games".
as far as overall quality of the games (given the insane ammount of games they did put out) Konami and Capcom win it.
and Namco made some other bad games that wern't mentionned, I think they can be considered the worst here.

Please specify that you mean either Hightech World or Enchanted Castle, because Lost Stars is merely mediocre, Shinobi World is quite enjoyable and Miracle World is a stroke of genius.nimitz wrote:Alex Kidd
Btw, Hightech World wasn't an Alex Kidd game in Japan at all, they just changed the sprites for the west for unknown reasons. The game was originally called Anmoitsu Hime.
Rastan Saga 2 is bad, but I think Dino Rex is worse.
Even though I am a Sega fanboy, I have to say that I think they put out more bad games than any of the other majors. Then again, they also put out more games than nearly anybody (arguably more good games as well), so the point may be moot.

We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.
I agree that their arcade output was generally of a very high calibur, but they did put out a LOT of crap on the SMS and to a lesser extent the Genesis.

I have the flyer...yeah, it's no good, and could have been.320x240 wrote:Konami: Devil World/Dark Adventure
Because it could have been good.
Like a lazy version of Gauntlet with wide-open spaces.
That said, I'm really, REALLY hating Trigon/Lightning Fighters right now. WTF, shit ain't dodgable, invisible shots, etc.
