GoLion aka Voltron on DVD

Post by Strider77 »

Dunno if anyone cares on here but the original japanese version Voltron (GoLion) is out on DVD now subbed.

The the original show that the vehicle team came from is heading to DVD also.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I've always wonder how the original Japanese versions of those two Voltron shows were like... ^_~

What American anime company is bringing them out?

Matchbox was the official distributor of both Voltron deluxe transformable robot toy sets for the USA toy market and very pricey back in 1986-1987 -- in the $90-$100 USD range... ^_~

Watching the original 1983 anime series of Genesis Climber Mospeada is quite different than what Harmony Gold did to create the third "Next Gen" portion of Robotech anime series. All those cool Mospeada toys and merchandise that came out in Japan eventually got distributed in the USA in 1984-1986...it just didn't sell too well in it's native country. I do recall seeing some the cool looking Macross & Mospeada model kits at the local grocery store back in 1985-1986. The chance of something like that happen today at the local grocery store is virtual nil these days... ^_~

Eventually as all good toys can be bought at a cheaper price if one waits long enough, Pic 'N' Save (the 80's equivelent of Big Lots stores nowdays) was selling both brand new Vehicle Team and Lions versions of Matchbox Voltron deluxe sets for a mere $39.99 USD. Quite a steal back in the day if you could find one mint and complete back in the late 1980's. ^_~

Here's an auction for one -- it isn't my auction anyways:

FYI: The original anime series Daruigger XV is what the "vehicle team" type Voltron was known as in Japan...
