Surprised there's so many Pac-Land fans in here (myself being one of them). Hiscores? I'm just past halfway to the highscore

Well, tell me what's wrong with it, and I'll be glad to retract my recommendation. I was able to one credit it in my teen years, and liked it.

For some reason I got the flyer for Rastan Saga 2.

I like the art, I like the music, I like the idea of beating down your 2P character for bragging rights at the end of the game, but the gameplay is somewhat slack.

The game's good, it's on one of the Namco Museums that happen to be expensive and aren't common like Volumes 1 & 3 (I believe it's on Volume 4 if I'm not mistaken), and the bastards at Namco didn't see fit to include it on their last PS2/X-Box/GC compilation.

Sigh -- what's wrong with Rastan Saga 2? Maybe it's just personal for me... -- as a kid, I was at the corner store every day playing Rastan for a period of about a year. It was, by far, my favorite game. The SMS port was inaccessible and when I did finally get to play it (the machine having been changed out by this point at the store), it couldn't hold a candle to the arcade version, though it is a good game in its own right. Don't even get me started on the C64 port.

Anyway, fast forward a few years, Rastan Saga 2 hits the arcades and later the Genesis. The game fails in any way to come anywhere near its predecessor. Meanwhile, the original Rastan languishes in the neutral zone, forever denied any kind of accurate port to the 16-bit systems. Honestly, between Rastan and Shinobi, my eternal favorites of the time, it's a fucking travesty that neither one ever got a decent port.

Actually, Rastan did get a decent enough port to the Apple //gs. I made sure to hunt down a copy a few years ago, even though it's one of the very few //gs games or applications I care about at all (and despite the fact I don't have a //gs or even a // myself).

Shinobi's port on the PC-Engine seems decent enough, although it's missing the bonus segments and the crazy later enemies get replaced with palette-swapped ninjas.

Rastan Saga 2/ Nastar Warrior is one of those rare games that are actually not touched by that law.

Honestly, guys. I don't see what is so wrong with the game that it deserves such hatred. As I said, I was able to one-credit it back in my teens, and it was quite popular at the arcade I played it at. Perhaps because it requires more memorization than twitch reflexes, some of you don't seem to like it. Thunder Fox kicks the crap out of Rastan 2, yes, but it's not as broken as, say, Altered Beast without a jump button, or Magic Sword with the settings put to make the health drain away on its own every 15 seconds.

Anyway, looking around I found these to be added to the list of suggestions:

Heated Barrel
Metamoquester.
Toki/Juju Densetsu.
Denjin Makai 2.
Joe and Mac Returns/Tumblepop (pretty much the same game)
Hook by Irem.

Never played the IIgs port.... then again, I don't think I've ever known anyone who actually owned a IIgs, so it may not have been the best target platform.

PC-Engine Shinobi is missing more than that; it has entire levels ripped out and almost all of the non-ninja/handgun guy/shieldguy enemies are gone. The graphics are also highly dumbed down in many spots.
Honestly, guys. I don't see what is so wrong with the game that it deserves such hatred.
Rastan Saga 2 is the Phantom Menace of videogames, that's about it.

Well, to be fair, I'll revisit the game on its Arcade, PCE and Genny incarnations, and see if it's as bad as you all say.

Or play it right after Rastan. It's much worse in every possible way despite being the "sequel".

Another easy way to find great unknown mame games is MAWS. Or more specifically the MAWS search engine.

a few little example of how it can be used:

All the Platform shooters, sorted by year, in a thumbnail gallery, showing only parent roms

All the Platfrom fighters, sorted by year, in a list with thumbnails, showing parent roms only

Same with Beat-em ups
