I couldn't agree more with your sentiments JP. Well, my Wii's been on Ebay for about 2 days now. I wish I could let people here in on it, but, AFIK, posting it would be against forum rules. I'm sure I'll get plenty of money for it-not as much as I would've gotten if I'd had a Wii with games during the holidays, but more then I would get if I wait there's no more shortages (or people just stop caring about it). I don't regret this one bit. Two of the games that I'm selling it with are Twilight Princess and Super Mario Galaxy, but I've just never cared much for either series in 3D.jp wrote:I haven't sold mine (yet), but its been in a box for a couple of months now and I haven't had a controller for it since March.
Basically, there's just nothing on it. I mean, there are a few REALLY good games (Excite Truck, No More Heroes), but those are insanely far and few between. And the more the system sells, and the more copies of Wii Play that fly off the shelves, the more developers are becoming obsessed with making mini-game compilations/overpriced tech demos for the thing.
As far as I'm concerned, the Wii is a total failure to the hardcore gamer. Its Nintendo kissing the collective ass of the casual-casual gamers, the ones that are even beyond your typical Madden/GTA nerds. And don't get me wrong, its cool to see older folks coming in a loving the thing, but it would be cooler if companies would still take the time to address those of us who aren't mystified by motion controls.
Oh, and Wii Fit. That shit is retarded. Go to a fucking gym you lazy fucks.
For those who sold their Wii's, what caused you to do it?...

Feel free to link up your auction in this thread, if you want a few more views, as it's quite on-topic here.dave4shmups wrote:I wish I could let people here in on it, but, AFIK, posting it would be against forum rules.

I love my Wii and I play it a lot more than my 360.
Castle of Shikigami III
Geometry Wars Galaxies
Fire Emblem
Super Mario Galaxy
Nights
Super Smash Bros Brawl
Sonic And The Secret Rings
Those games get almost all of my time. And the Wii has the power to look great on my 26" HDTV. Since there's no "graphical standards", it's all up to the deveoper to make the game look good.

And here's the biggest reason of why I'm keeping my Wii: "No graphical standards!" If Nintendo did impose "graphical standards" on the 3rd parties, Castle of Shikigami III never would have made it outside of Japan.

Lol. Fail.No HD, no DVD support by default and the fact I have to buy batteries for the controllers just put me right off the Wii.
Fail again. Try telling millions of Japanese that the console sitting in their front room is a novelty that's about to die out and see what they think. To me the Wii is a gimmick and the novelty will diminish soon

Why is no one discussing all the FAIL with the PS3 and the XBox360. My BEEF here is that all the next gen consoles have serious issues, mostly being a lack of high quality titles. I mean, try favoring any of the new consoles above the PS2 (ignoring potential backwards compatibility) for your desert island survival kit! The truth is, not a single next gen console has fully come into its own yet. This isn't to say wii hate is unjustified, but neither is ps3 or 360 hate. At this point in the game, I kinda think they all suck.

I got a Wii because it was there...in the store. I heard about how hard to find it was, so I nab'd it up, impluse buy. Later I realized I didn't want it, I've played some of the games, but I'd rather play 2D DS games to tell the truth.
I traded it with Brawl for a New Astro City cab with Tekken 4.

Also, half the games you listed are either a) ports, b) remakes, c) multi-platform or d) mediocre. Okay, so you listed Brawl and Galaxy, which are good games. And what else? The Wii is a friend to the LCD TV lacking gamer, but still lacks a worthy collection of games, a year and a half later.

I'm actually going to buy a wii very soon, so if you sell yours, let me know.
Anyways, I want a Wii for several reasons. Number 1 should be enough.
1. Online Smash Bros. 'Nuff said.
2. Pinball hall fo fame: williams collection. Yes, I have it for ps2 already, but I played it at a friend's with the wiimote, and being able to realistically shake the table with either hand, with a flick of a wrist just like the real thing... is enough for me to get this copy also.
3. Megaman 9 is coming out.
I refuse to get a 360, for several reasons. The main one, they didn't even fix this console, and they're already talking about a *new* console. Typical microsoft fashion. Vista anyone?
I won't get a ps3, zero games interest me on it. I'm a PC gamer. I don't play sports games, and I can't stand FPS's on a console. Feels too much like I'm playing with an etch n sketch.
That's about it really. Sad, I know, for only 3 games (technically 2), getting a whole console, but oh well. The other big thing, is that my gamecube got stolen from me. I can now play GCN games.
I have no problems getting a wii. I just hand the money to my best friend who works at toys 'r us. I get a wii when they get in.

Or a PC. Lest we forget that the PC version was out for nearly a year before either of the console ports were released.Asherdude wrote: And which one of those games that I listed are either a port, remake, multi-platform or mediocre? Personal taste aside, Mario Galaxy doesn´t even come close to being in the same league as SMB3. The latter one just has much larger pop-cultural relevance. Galaxy is indeed a nice game for a while and has some clever levels along the way, but overall it clearly doesn´t have the same impact like SMB3 did.dial911 wrote: Mario Galaxy (Mario 3 is only marginally better... yes, it is that good)
Anyways, I just come back from discovering and playing Cave Story (I actually DO live under a rock most of the time), and I really wonder how a game that would fit on two floppy disks and was made by one guy easily surpasses 90% of the game industries output. It´s neither the high-res nor the waggle, it´s the lack of competence in gamedesign and imagination that is ruining the gaming landscape. Bangai-O Spirits and Rhythm Tengoku are perfect examples of what the industry really needs.
Overall I get the impression that the "innovashiun" the Wii brought is very superficial. It´s just a controller that may or may not register vague motions, and also acts as a crude mouse replacement. Warioware Twisted! (NOT Smooth Moves) was a perfect example how a pretty simple mechanism can result in a brilliant game. But now it seems that even Nintendo doesn´t really know what to do with their controllers. The biggest titles people mention don´t even really need the Wiimote, at least not in a way that the game completely builds up on it. I hear people saying that the Wii wheel works great on Mariokart, but it should be obvious that this is something that has been added to a series that relied on traditional controls.
Right now, the only thing that REALLY formed a natural connection to the Wiimote is Wii Tennis. That´s a game that simply wouldn´t have worked without its new controls. But the rest seems simply so tacked-on. When instead of pressing a simple button the game requires me to shake my wrist, then that´s simply making things more complicated than they have to be. Thinking about it, what sense does the "golden wheel" icon in MKWii make? WOW, it´s a reward for sticking with the inferior control option. If it really WAS better and more natural, we wouldn´t need this nonsense. But it is simply dumping a perfectly fine way to play the game for a inferior one just for the sake of using the systems "thing".
Of course, there are a couple of very neat games on the Wii, but that doesn´t reinforce its core concept. The only thing the Wii innovated so far is getting more random people to buy this thing. Otherwise, it doesn´t do anything that either a mouse controlled game or gimmicky arcade games did before.
Again, this is coming from someone who has been a loyal Nintendo customer since the original Gameboy. And the DS is lying peacefully next to my PSP; no complaints there. Overall, handheld gaming has been very cool this generation.
It's a good thing I have one of those. Also like someone said, it was on the PC for a long time prior to these console ports.Asherdude wrote:protip: You'll need a japanese 360 to play it. It will NEVER be released outside Japan on the 360 thanks to Microsofts stance on HD.

Castle of Shikigami III - port, originally on PC
Geometry Wars Galaxies - remake, originally on 360
Fire Emblem - mediocre
Nights - mediocre
Sonic And The Secret Rings - mediocre
This is not merely my opinion, simply look at the metacritic scores for these games. I considered buying the NiGHTS sequel for Wii, but then the PS2 remake of the original game was released. And it was way way better.

Well, it just sold, so I'm made $500.00!!!
WHOOOOOP!!!

BTW, nice set Asherdude! Dang it, I wish I had a TV like that, then I could go get a PS3 or 360, with the money I just made. Best Buy has some great deals on LCD monitors, but....no speakers on them.

IMO, the DS is a keeper, but that's because it's a much more balanced system-between casual and hardcore. I don't even mind casual games, so long as they're worth buying, which most of the Wii's casual library isn't.
