For those who sold their Wii's, what caused you to do it?...
I'm curious about this, because I'm thinking very seriously about selling mine. Nintendo, as far as I'm concerned, has utterly failed their fans. They have, as stated in Game Informer, no standards as to what games they let on the Wii, and I'm tired of all of the crap. I'm also tired of the lack of Square-Enix RPG's and other games I want, on the VC. And I don't give a crap about Wii-Ware games or the balance board. The VC is cool, but I already have an SNES, and Genesis, and I'm getting a NES.
I suppose this is why people get rid of their Wii's; am I correct? There are two things holding me back-one is that, while I have about 6 great games for it, as well as an original Cube controller and some Cube games, I don't know if I could get enough to get a 360 and an LCD monitor, or TV. Second is that Nintendo will announce their fall line-up in a month, at E3-suppose there's a lot of awesome games on the way?
As it stands now, though, I'd rather get a J-PS2 or a PSP, even if I couldn't sell my Wii lot for a 360 and HD set. I don't know, though, if I could get more then a few hundred dollars for it, and if so, if that would be worth it. (Much less what I should price it at.)

I haven't sold mine (yet), but its been in a box for a couple of months now and I haven't had a controller for it since March.
Basically, there's just nothing on it. I mean, there are a few REALLY good games (Excite Truck, No More Heroes), but those are insanely far and few between. And the more the system sells, and the more copies of Wii Play that fly off the shelves, the more developers are becoming obsessed with making mini-game compilations/overpriced tech demos for the thing.
As far as I'm concerned, the Wii is a total failure to the hardcore gamer. Its Nintendo kissing the collective ass of the casual-casual gamers, the ones that are even beyond your typical Madden/GTA nerds. And don't get me wrong, its cool to see older folks coming in a loving the thing, but it would be cooler if companies would still take the time to address those of us who aren't mystified by motion controls.
Oh, and Wii Fit. That shit is retarded. Go to a fucking gym you lazy fucks.

Nintendo has never really been into making overly challenging games. They are a family company and grandma plays Wii Sports bowling damn good.
The Wii is getting some shmups lately which is great. I don't see the ps3 caring much about shmups. I think it is a great deal for the price and does offer some good games. You can be sure that the ps3 and XBOX 360 will be stuck in their FPS/Sports rut for some time to come.

Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Ever since the N64 i've had a love/hate relationship with Nintendo's consoles - I basically never feel like theres enough games to keep me interested and have to end up buying a 2nd console to compensate. The Wii has to be the worst so far, however - between the extreme lack of 3rd party titles I care about, and the extreme length of time it takes Nintendo of Europe to bring titles over, i'm left with very little to play. Saying that though, the N64 & Gamecube may have not had enough titles for me, but looking back theres a good collection of games for those consoles that I remember fondly and count as some of my all-time favourites - I can only hope i'll eventually look back on the Wii the same.
Wario Ware Smooth Moves was a huge letdown after Twisted!, Mario Galaxy got stale after playing through it once (not minding all this 100 purple coin OCD crap), Mario Kart Wii is only fun in multiplayer and my gaming mate has his own Wii he can bring along.
Those three games was all I bought the Wii for and they all were a lot less exciting than I expected. Adding to that, I felt stupid for spending over 6000 points on VC games I didn´t really play either. And I REALLY got tired of all this Wiimote Sensorbar Nunchuck nonsense.
Huge dissapointment. The only thing that REMOTELY interests me is hearing that the new Wario Land is seemingly developed by Treasure. But that´s about it, really. I am also happy that I don´t have to have my old tiny shit TV set up in my room and can now stuff it away again.
Now I still have my DS with some nice games on it, and the PSP needs some of my attention, too - didn´t keep track on the releases, seems there is a bunch of nice titles out there now and even now the PSP seems MUCH more of a proper console to me than the Wii. The Wii MIGHT finally get some nice proper games on it after a certain time, but I could also imagine tons of gamers (and non-gamers) getting tired of it and selling it again when the hype dies abruptly. Right now it really IS just a gimmicky console with no substance - I didn´t see that coming...

You know, at first I thought "That might work, might get people to get interested in sports" etc, but actually, yeah, it´s plain retarded. You don´t even need a gym, just a couple of dumbbells, a proper floor for lunges and crunches, running shoes and some self control -all you need for a complete workout. But people are just too soft in the head most of the timejp wrote: Oh, and Wii Fit. That shit is retarded. Go to a fucking gym you lazy fucks.

My friend bought a Wii and he sold it after like, 3 months. He said the games were utterly boring and the Wii remote, which was supposed to faithfully capture your motions, was nowhere near to do that.
In fact, the Wii remote was his biggest complaint. He couldn't play games like Wii boxing or Wii baseball, as the guy on the screen never followed what you did with the remote. And the Wii Zelda, in which Link was supposed to swing the sword as you did with the remote, was a big lie.
Yeah, he was pretty disappointed with the Wii. He sold it and bought a PS3 instead.
By the way, this is what Wii Fit is all about.

It's a good thing Wiis have been hard to find. I kinda thought about getting one, but everybody that has one seems to ignore it after the novelty wears off.
I think Wii Fit would be better if it was more of a game. I haven't played it, but by looking at the activity list it seems like you're just doing normal exercises on a scale in front of a TV (with the exception of some of the balance games). I thought it might be more like DDR; in DDR you get so caught up in the game that you don't even realize how much exercise you're getting out of it. If Wii Fit was fun enough to make you forget you're exercising, I'd probably buy it (the cubicle life is making me feel more lethargic by the day).

I only own one today because it was given to me.
I bought one back in 2006 when they were released. Wii Sports was great for awhile, but eventually the novelty wore off. I wasn't interested in things like Twilight Princess, so I waited. Super Paper Mario was coming.
Then I heard it wasn't going to be released in PAL until 6 months after the US release. Then the exact same thing happened to Metroid Prime 3. Sure, Mario Galaxy was fun after that, but I pretty much had to wait a year for something good to come along.
Then I heard No More Heroes was being censored deliberately in the Japanese and European markets, and that there's no way to play US games on a non-US console. Well, that's pretty much when I said "fuck this" and sold the damn thing. They were still in demand, so selling it was a wise move, because I made a profit out of doing so.
I have one at the moment. The games that came with it? I'm trying to sell them. It also came with a bunch of VC games, so I did buy an SNES controller for it. Apart from that, the only game that I have actively purchased for the console is No More Heroes, US version.
The game's a lot of fun, although the overworld looks like crap. Suda should NOT attempt to do sandbox style games. Apart from that, I don't really care about the Wii, despite owning one at the moment.
I've pretty much taken the 360 route but only because I ended up finding one for cheap. A Japanese one nonetheless, and currently sporting about 10 games. Is it good? Yes. Do I like it? Yes. Am I terrified that it might RRoD on me? Yes.
Wii Fit appeals to me because it's unique, but it also manages to appear incredibly gimmicky. I don't care what people think of innovative approaches into gaming, some of them just aren't a good idea. If I wanted to work out, I'd.. work out? And that's why I can't see myself buying Wii Fit.
I don't own a PS3, but I'm planning on doing so later this year. This is providing that the price drops a hundred or more, so I can get one for $300. At least, I really hope that happens to the 40GB barebones model. It happened with the 360 Core. But money towards consoles is money taken away from arcade PCBs, and that's not good. It's always in the back of my mind but I possess the terrible attitude of "oh well, it's a good investment, stuff will come along".

The PS1 and PS2 (the most popular systems of their days) were also flooded with tons of crap, but that doesn't mean the great games were made worse because of it.
My fiancee and I have over 20 Wii games that we like, and that's not including VC and Wii Ware releases.
You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.
Nintendo will always rule - they're a stunningly professional organisation who have a very high standard of in-house games. You can at least be assured the Nintendo releases will be awesome. Metroid on Wii is amazing and the Virtual Console is lovely.
They deserve to be where they are with the Wii because they've broken a barrier in gaming that has been starting to get stale since the PS2, and introduced something that feels different to play. Wii players make up the most diverse gaming demographic in history (my mum plays it, nuff said), and that very real win can't be ignored.
If we go back to Nintendo's roots, the 'family' relationship with the games console was always the goal, and this time they've really gone a long way to finally achieving it.

Quoted for almost absolute truth!
The day Nintendo becomes a second party or worse will be the day the games industry officially dies.
Like them or not (I have a love/hate relationship), but they always deliver!

Manufacturing an entire console dedicated to a gimmicky control system designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator isn't "worse?" The games industry has survived though and has proven itself capable of even thriving with or without Nintendo's efforts to put out Wii shovel-ware.Super Laydock wrote:Wow!Skykid wrote:Nintendo will always rule - they're a stunningly professional organisation who have a very high standard of in-house games. Anyone read this book? I think I'm gonna find a copy. Nintendo's bible for the last four years or so.
Anyways yeah, I've been thinking the same thing you guys have, but are you guys just ignoring Castle Shikigami 3? Blast Works got some good reviews as well and I'm looking forward to it once the price drops. Wii is still totally viable as a Gamecube 2 for me. There is also that new 2D Wario platformer on the horizon. The last few Wario platformers have sucked, namely Master of Disguise, but as long as a lot of good talent is put to this one, I think it will be a must have for the system. I don't know, I just have a good feeling about it. Then again, I had a good feeling about Sonic and the Secret Rings.

None of the control setups (aside from GameCube and an odd motion = moving one… blegh) allow for grenades to be mapped to a button press, and for some reason the GameCube controller also doesn't let you use the d-pad and not the analog stick. That means that with all the crazy "use your Wii controller upright as a virtual arcade stick" crap that was put in the game there isn't a single mode that lets you use a d-pad along with all button presses for the game's actions."

I invested heavily HD technology and media streaming, so, I sold my Wii after a month I bought it because the Wii is technically bankrupt. No HD, no DVD support by default and the fact I have to buy batteries for the controllers just put me right off the Wii. To me the Wii is a gimmick and the novelty will diminish soon.
I sold mine after a few months to one of the forum members here.. I had to games Resident Evil 4 and Cooking Mama...
Resi 4 controls made it unplayable for me, and it was basically the Gamecube version with Ada as a playable character.. Cooking Mama was gimmicky as hell and didn't respond well to controls..
Nearly everyone I know who has them is female or older people, who never played games and the Wii is there first console..
The only games I would want are the House of the Deads and Ghost Squad, and i have HOTD2 on Jap Dreamcast.. I never liked liked any 3d Mario games and I bought the Gamecube Twilight Princess over the Wii version.. Some reason the Gamecubes version is rarer than golddust..
I have to agree with Jp Nintendo sucking up to the casual player.. Ninjabread man and Horse Riding etc

On topic: Sure, Nintendo moving "upstream" (or whatever that thing is called in this Blue Ocean theory stuff) might be a good move in the short term, since people got all crazy over the Wii. But what I doubt is that those people will be converted into long-term game buyers.
Also, I guess we (the arcade-action favouring "hardcore" gamers) should be aware of the fact that we pretty much fell out of the Nintendo demographic this round. I mean, even Mario Kart got dumbed down with even harsher rubberbanding and automatic drifting. I mean, really. Mario Kart used to be one of my favourite series and now it´s gotten so mediocre even in multiplayer. Selling consoles to new demographics is fine and good, but I guess these new gamers are a lot less predictable and stable in their buying decisions as the traditional gamers who played games over several console generations. Alienating your former fanbase never is a good idea IMHO.

As I have said before, the Japanese Wii version of Metal Slug Anthology is the one to get.
I don't worry about the crap (nobody forces me to buy it) so I only have good games. Metal Slug, Ghost Squad, House of the Dead, Shikigami III, and Mario Kart. It's only a handful of games so I would not make Wii my primary console, but it's a nice complement to the rest of the collection.

Star Soldier R
No More Heroes
Metroid Prime 3
Mario Galaxy (Mario 3 is only marginally better... yes, it is that good)
Zak & Wiki
Smash Bros
Excite Truck
All good games worth playing/owning.
I never owned a PC Engine... never would have even considered buying one. Ended up downloading Blazing Lazers, Lords of Thunder, Soldier Blade, Super Star Soldier on the VC... experiencing these games was worth the price of the Wii alone.
Also got to give Sin & Punishment a good run through.. The Wii is a great machine and there are already tons of quality shmups available.
Next up... Gates of Thunder VC... then possibly Shiki III

What more can I say I wouldn't be here today if the old school didn't pave the way.
I don't really understand the hatred for the Wii that stems on the net these days. The Wii has a special audience that is different than what is considered "hardcore" today. The variety of games on the Wii that wouldn't sell for shit on the PS3 and 360 is amazing. In my opinion, the Wii actually does have a library of games for the obscure, hardcore gamer who doesn't want videogame movies or the usual game settings/plots. I don't consider myself a "hardcore" gamer by usual standards and I'm not interested in much on the PS3 or 360. Yet, I'm thrilled with the lineup of the Wii and would have a tough time affording the amount of games I want at this moment. I've had a blast with my Wii since early 2007. I've got a new HDTV with a new PS3 and don't really use the latter for anything other than DVDs lately. Here's some games that would never sell well or reach any audience on the other two consoles...
Shiki III
Blast Works
Nights
House of the Dead Returns
Ghost Squad
Block Buster Deluxe
Star Soldier R
Lost Winds
Endless Ocean
Cruis'N (I'm probably the only person here who likes the idea of this game)
Pinball Hall of Fame
The new 2D Wario game
Super Paper Mario
Many of these games would never have even been approved for release on the other two consoles. The Wii has gotten many of these types of games and I'm very satisfied with that. Nintendo isn't perfect, by any means, but I do think it's unfair to condemn their Wii lineup thus far. I haven't begun to list off the many good-great first party titles on the console either.
