I've seen people do like 2000 lines on MSX Tetris. And that's one of the most archaic Tetris I know (It doesn't have speed-up, just drop, very limited rotation after the piece reaches the bottom, no "ghost piece", no store piece, no move piece before it gets into the pit....). If I remeber correctly, after 1000 lines the line counter goes crazy.

I used to play a Tetris handheld where the game would crash after you reached 999 lines too. And that shit was also extremely archaic. I am sure you will find many people who can keep on playing it endlessly.

Wow. 999 lines is pretty good.

I used to marvel at the folks who could get some pretty high scores on the Atari Games version of Tetris PCB where the pieces would be falling so fast that the player had virtually a split second to move and rotate it before it became "set in stone" -- this was back in 1990-1991 when it used to cost a real quarter to play per credit which forced the player to do well in order to justify spending such coinage...

An Atari Games Tetris PCB is pretty small and compact for it's size... ^_~

Atari tetris is incredibly unfair.

Sega tetris is the better game, and tetris: The Grand Master beats both by a mile.

I just scored ps2 Tetris kiwamemichi off ebay. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_q ... type=&aq=f
:D Can't wait.
I'm also looking for tetris for the Wonderswan, but that is unfindable.

The number of lines is usually irrelevant, playing for score is where it's at. In fact, Tetris: The Grand Master doesn't even keep track of lines.

Regardless, a "good" number of lines varies greatly between versions. There are differences in vertical block speed, horizontal block speed, whether or not you can rotate after a block lands, etc.

I know I managed to max out my score once on the GBC version of the game. I cant remember how many lines I got, I guess the total should still be saved on the cart...

I did something like 4850 lines on the NES cartridge once. (The one where the little Russian people would come out and dance lol.) I got into some sort of zen state. I think I got to level 24 before I got distracted and lost it.

I can't do stuff like that in video games as much anymore. The only time I ever play is late in the day where work and everything else IRL is one my mind.

Several years ago I had a rare moment where I 1CC'd through GradiusIV on the PS2. Now I die on the bubble stage lol.

I'm no good at Tetris, but one puzzler I have managed to "zone out" with and do quite well is Pnickies. It scales speed a little unfairly, otherwise I'd still be working on my score.

The NES Tetris cart that you mention of is none other than Tengen's version of Tetris...there was a big lawsuit between Nintendo and Tengen over the copyrights of NES Tengen. Of course, Nintendo won and Tengen had to pull all the remaining Tengen versions of Tetris off the stores shelves. For the lucky few gamers to have bought such a copy of Tengen Tetris, consider youself very fortunate to be at the right place at the right time to get one. If you still have it with the Tengen Tetris factory box, it's a valuable piece of Tengen gaming history should you decide to sell it...is considered the definitive version to play over the NES version of the same name... ^_~

There was some much bally-hooed hype over Nintendo's Tetris 2 game when it first made it's debut in the USA -- you might recall the TV commercials for it... ^_~

Any Tetris fan should try out Tetris Butou Gaiden for the Super Famicom if they haven't already. Great two player vs. fun.

That one is the one in the early Hikaru Vs. the variety show host.

TGM Ace is not very good. :( TGM1 doesn't cost an arm and a leg, but the other two still do.

Only the third one is not emulated, though it's really hard to find the second one.

Versions of tetris worth getting, in my opinion.

1) Gb Tetris, or tetris DX. either one will do.
2) Either NES version of tetris.
3) PC Tetris.
4) Sega Ages Tetris collection. (contains Sega tetris games)
5) Tetris Plus (ps1/Saturn)
6) Tetris Battle Gaiden, SuperFamicom.
7) Tetris DS.
8) Any decentl clone/emulation of any TGM game you can find. Heboris U.E. and Texmaster are pretty good ones.

Dreamcast has a 4-player tetris called tetris 4D. It's low on features, but has at least 4 player gameplay.

The Playstation 1 has a game called Sakura Card Captor Tetris which is made by Arika who also made the grand master series. 2 players.

Also for the playstation is a 4 player tetris called Tetris X, didn't play it alot.

I just won ps2 Tetris kiwamemichi, which I can't wait to receive.

I also have the Tetris Plus 2 pcb, which is not ported, but dumped, so do check that out in mame. Great game.

Does anybody know if ps2 Sega Tetris collection has 480p?

Kiwamemichi has a few 4 players mode, one of them it's cooperative.. 4 players playing at the same time, on the same pit, with 4 pieces falling at the same time. It's very fun to play, if you can gather 3 friends to play Tetris cooperatively (Which is kinda hard :D)

I think the endless rotate, 7 next previews and store totally kill the classic mode. It has some other fun modes tho, but as far as classic Tetris action goes, it totally blows imo.

Yes, the Tengen version!

Unfortunately, I only rented it at the time.

Growing up I had always wondered what the deal was with Tengen games and cartridges.

IRC, didn't Tenegn hae a version of Hard Drivin'? I swear I rented it at one time. If only I knew then what I know now would have bought half the inventory of that rental place I grew up by. Looking back they seemed to carry every title ever that ever existed at some point.

It looks pretty addicting; I watched some footage of it on YouTube! So, no love in this thread for DS Tetris? That got pretty high reviews; doesn't mean it's good, of course. I'd love for Tetrisphere to get a VC release as that one looks sweet! :D

true, however, i think the random items in vs. mode is a good twist. especially 4 player wi-fi item matches. anything can happen.

TGM Ace's time attack modes go by how many LINES you clear, not by the level (pieces placed & lines cleared). There's also an Out Run style checkpoint timer added. This wasn't in the arcade versions, so there's not really a need for it here. Some of the best modes from the arcade TGMs don't make it over to Ace.

Shame they don't just port all 3 arcade TGMs to 360 or PS3.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

They may not be able to due to changes in the Tetris Company's standards.

I believe the arcade TGM games violate some aspects of the now-current Tetris standards.

I got kiwamemichi yesterday. Wow, great presentation, great music.
Now to find out what everything does/is. Is there a source that descibes all the options/menus? Really impressed and even though I had to go to bed, I played it very long!
Found it at Tetrisconcept and made this with the info: http://www.zshare.net/download/138655030c35a6cd/
