Odd loose ends to tidy up.
I've recently realized that I have many small goals that need to be done.
-Finish learning C++
-Finish some of those half completed vidya games
-Learn to play Chess
-Learn the number row on my keyboard
-Finish learning OpenGL
-Finally see those last two abdominal muscles
What are your loose ends that eat at the back of your mind?
Parhaps we could post back in a month with progress? Just a thought.

Is this really possible? C++ is one of those languages that even the best programmers don't know entirely.Pixel_Outlaw wrote: -Finish learning C++

It´s supposed to be the most effective ab excercise you can do, and boy does it ever burn. I also find it to be a lot more fun than those tedious standard crunches.

My projects are always way to big and unrealistic so that I never get anything done:
Like program a realistic 2d (fixed viewpoint) cumulus cloud simulator with c++ using directx (which would require me to learn pretty advanced directx programming and better c++ programming first, not speaking of the math behind the lightning and movement of clouds)
or get the cho rensha worldrecord (lol)
But as long as the current semester is running I have at least the excuse of university being more important... -.-

i can give you a run for your money in it.GaijinPunch wrote:Is this really possible? C++ is one of those languages that even the best programmers don't know entirely.Pixel_Outlaw wrote: -Finish learning C++
the new standard is allegedly going to come out this century, so you might want to hurry up a bit.
tho i think bjarne could claim he knows c++ inside and out.
A worthy goal, I'm working on the CCNP myself. I've just lost all motivation after getting the CCNA though.UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:Start working on my CCNP now that I'm interning at a Cisco reseller/contractor.
Maybe it'd convince them to hire me.
IMO if you have your CCNA and they still won't hire you... Finding another job would be a better incentive than getting the CCNP.

Likely, but it's one of those languages that expands (Boost libraries, for example) and knowing them would constitute "knowledge in the language".bay wrote: tho i think bjarne could claim he knows c++ inside and out.

Chess rocks, but make sure you find a human being to teach you and not just a computer tutorial. Playing against people (especially people who are willing to discuss the game with you) is the best way to learn. A basic book that shows you all the pieces moves and basic strategies could be good, but I wouldn't go all out with lots of other books.Pixel_Outlaw wrote: -Learn to play Chess
The best thing is to have friends who want to play routinely and are good sports. Play often and have fun!

The best part is screaming "I GOT YOUR BITCH" when you manage to take someone's queen. This might not be the best idea if you want a frequent chess partner though.CMoon wrote:Chess rocks, but make sure you find a human being to teach you and not just a computer tutorial. In my case, getting a CCNP is a big incentive for them to hire me. They get discounts and other deals from Cisco the higher and more certified ppl they get. I'll probably get more moolah too.The n00b wrote:A worthy goal, I'm working on the CCNP myself.
