Red Dog - Dreamcast

Post by undamned »

Media here: http://dreamcast.ign.com/objects/010/010961.html

The Coop, Acid King, and Diabollokus have all mentioned Red Dog for the DC, but I've not found any discussion on it here. What are you guys' impressions of the game? Does it have a good pace about it? By that I mean, I'm thinking of Master Blaster when I look at the pics/clips and I'm wondering how "action packed" this game is, 'cause it looks like a lot o' fun. Thanks! :D

It's a great little gem that passed pretty much unnoticed when it came out. It takes some getting used to the controls and the kinda floaty physics, but the action is really good. The campaign is tough and the extra missions for weapon and tank upgrades are fucking ball breakers.

I'd forgotten how DC games just looked and felt superior compared to the blocky and unsharp PS2. Impressive.

Its been a long time since I played it but memories are positive ones. If I recall the boss fights were pretty dam cool in 2 places, water one and helicopter canyon fight.

As has been said, it's a little seen game that came and went. It got good scores, and it was made by the folks behind Star Fox (Argonaut Games), which you'd think would have gotten it at least some attention. Instead, the game faded from view before it was even released.

It's nice looking, has good sound, is quite the challenge, and once you get a handle on the controls, is a lot of fun. Good level diversity, and it's just about the right length as well. It gives you plenty to do, without feeling too short or drawn out. It's probably dirt cheap by now, so grab a copy if you can. I've owned it since it was released, and I haven't regretted buying it since.

Much overlooked, while indeed is worthy of your attention.
Don't have much to add to what's been said already, other then:

You gotta give kudos for Sega endowing it's DC console with VGA Box compatibility in the first place, something that SCEI didn't think of doing with it's PS2 console... ^_~
