What's your Ten favorite 2D game of all time? I know there's a whole 2D forum, but I'm bad at managing accounts...

2.) Donkey Kong Country 2
3.) Streets of Rage
4.) Tetris
5.) Zombies Ate My Neighbors
6.) Super Hang On
7.) Mortal Kombat
8.) Columns
9) Excite Bike
10.) Contra

He's making fun of Ceph because he likes to advertise here a lot for his 2d forum.

You consider these 2d games?

I guess so .... Since the arrows are 2d. But I don't really lump them with other types of games, they're a class of their own

I'm pretty sure it would be the top 10 titles from my top 25 shmups list. Shmups are my favorite (and by far most-played) 2D genre.

Never knew it was your forum Ceph, and never visited until just now, as I can't afford to get addicted to another one! Like it alot, and it's got a brilliant humour about it, and a very reassuring design. And now I don't feel so bad about my high average post count here, as loads of you shmups regulars post there! Which begs the question; should I join?

On topic, excluding shooters otherwise they'd fill my top 10, here it is:

Rainbow Islands
Bubble Bobble
Cannon Fodder
Super Mario World
Curse Of Monkey Island
Chaos Engine
Excite Bike
California Games
Mike Tyson's Punchout
Settlers

I'm going to join. I've looked round and it's a really awesomeplace, and small in a nice way, and I don't think I have too much time to waste any more on forums so I'll just have to spread out my use from one forum to two.

...and I love all the games covered...

Actually, having just given them both a go, I'd scratch Strider for Strider 2 (arcade / PS). As carpeted from wall to wall with iconic set pieces as the original is, it's a little too stiff now (and relies way too much on those annoying vertical formation enemies for pressure). The sequel plays like a true refinement, particularly improving on head-to-head boss battles a thousandfold, although it lacks the original's unfailingly cinematic atmosphere. I suppose it's technically a hybrid 2D / 3D game too, although its gameplay and sprites make it a 2D effort in my book.

Took awhile to decide on everything after the first three.

1 Valkyrie Profile (PSX)
2 Megaman Zero 2 (GBA)
3 Yggdra Union (GBA)
4 Summon Night: Swordcraft Story (GBA)
5 Zeliard (PC)
6 Viewtiful Joe (GCN)
7 Super Metroid (SNES)
8 Legend of Zelda: a Link to the Past (SNES)
9 Armed Police Batrider (ARC)
10 Odin Sphere (PS2)
Your party has been waylaid by monsters.
