I do. I liked their outrun 2 review. They seem to be a lot more open minded than other review sites who dock points on racing games for not slapping on a GT label on the package.

Shit! That's some pretty wild stuff.

We all know it's happening but to see it come out like this is something alright.

Never trust review sites, it's up to the gamer to go out and play the game to form an actual opinion. Reviews can help determine if a game is hot or not, but should be taken with a grain of salt.

Not since IGN bought them.

Still, I consider them to be more accurate and fair than Lamespot and Lamepro.

I really don't read reviews on game sites. I'll check the scores, skim through the first few paragraphs, check out the screenshots. If it's a site with contributers, like shmups or Sega-16, I'll check who the reviewer is. Other than that, I generally just like to get the big picture from the review: what kind of game is it, does it suck? Then if I'm interested and I can, I'll try out the game first. I only bother reading reviews fully if the game is hard to come by, or if it won't be for a while that I can get it/

I have found out that most "hard core" gamers do the same thing these days.

The official explanation is that the freelance reviewer based the majority of the review on the soundtrack to the game rather than the game itself, which is why it underwent the changes. They admit that in most cases they okay changes with the freelancer beforehand (in case they object or want their name removed) and that they failed to do it in this case, so they admit some fault.

I typically research games I'm not sure of.
This involves checking gamerankings.com, reading listed reviews, and checking a range of possitive&negative user reviews and impressions at Gamefaqs.

For older games, I usually try to emulate first.

Easy and effective system if you ask me.

Asshatry such as Gamespy's new scandal, EGM's Mainstream Skin-Fluting, or GameInformer in general would complicate this system if there weren't already enough alternative sources.
