If that's what you want out of it, then get a portable gaming machine like the PSP or the GP2X. They both play all the older consoles full speed all the way up to the Sega CD as well as arcade games. PSP doesn't do MAME very well (may as well be not at all really), but it does emulate every Neo Geo and CPS1+2 games perfectly. I don't fully agree with this though. Have you ever tried carrying a "full-fledged" machine every day on a commute? That crap is bulky like Hell. Before I was assigned a desktop machine at my lab, I brought my own 15.4" notebook back and forth every day, I barely had room in my pack for my lunch. Now that I have a desktop at work, I just throw my eeePC in my bag and hardly even notice it, it's like a small hardcover book. The intended purposes are quite different, with the ultraportables being highly geared towards travel.And besides, I don't see the point of them when you can just go a bit further and get a full fledged machine (laptop).
I don't find taking my iBook with me that bothersome. It's my main computer; I just plop it on my desktop and hook it into an external monitor and keyboard/mouse when I'm at home. It does absolutely everything I need it to do from surfing the net to being a graphics workhorse. Plus, I have a nice bag that I put it in along with all my other shit (phone, wallet, keys, iPod, etc.) because I hate having to carry all that stuff in my pockets any more. The public’s reasoning might proceed something like this:
"An Eee PC 900 for $450 (good) with a Celeron (not good) at 900 MHz (not good)"
or
“An Eee PC 901 for $450 (good) with an Atom (good) at 1.6 GHz (good)”
